In Need Of A Guide

Just payed for three months after getting some help from corp-buddies and realizing how fun this game can be.

As opposed to constantly pestering my corp-buddies with questions, I wanted to know if there is some kind of comprehensive guide with which I can learn all I need to know? I googled and found many outdated entries, but no comprehensive thing.

If it helps:

No.

Sorry, there's way too much stuff in EVE for there to be one single guide on everything. There are, however, some good information sources around.

-the EVE Wiki. http://wiki.eveonline.com/
-The help channel. If you are on a new account you should be in the Rookie Help channel, which you can ask questions in. Otherwise, you can click on the chat bubble icon on the top right of the chat window and join "help"
-This forum. Questions here tend to be answered pretty quickly and pretty thoroughly

This is real good. Download the free PDF to start.

For less drones, go Minmatar ships or Caldari I'd say. The best Gallente ships seem to be drone boats.

...I had forgotten about that. Yes, that guide is certainly a good starting point.

Thanks for the guide! As I was saying, I plan to use drones!

There are many guides in eve..... but they are based on specific topics. what are you interested in?

PvE (WHs, Incursions, missions, mining, trade, PI, production, research, POS, exploration ...),
PvP (sov, pirating, suicide ganking, soloing, Faction Warfare, ...),
Game mechanics ( turrets & Tracking, Missiles, EWAR, aggression timers, bubbles, ...)

Better plan something different.

Stop that. Drones are a perfectly viable style of play, and we need more variety in space anyway.

I can't recommend this guide enough - excellent bit of read .

As mentioned by others, EVElopedia is also great for learning more about the game http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Main_Page

Thanks all for the help. I plan on doing Missions for awhile, followed by complexes with Corp-Mates. Just trying to get the ropes.

New pilot here as well, just giving some feedback regarding some of the guides I've read (when I say new pilot, I have 5 weeks play time now - so very green here!)

Both the guides below are linked previously in this thread...

The ISK Guide - Very good "overall" kind of guide - it touches on nearly every gameplay aspect and gives good information for a beginner (not too indepth that the info goes over your head).

Once you've been playing a little while though, it becomes more of a reference guide for damage types, fuel requirements etc.

Eve University - This site I've been reading up on a lot recently. Has a lot more indepth detail (eg: giving the formula for turret hit chance) which is great once you've got the overall picture of the game and want to start learning some of the finer points.

Eve online forums - To be honest, I've found the official forums somewhat hit and miss as to the information available. Having said that, if you trawl long enough, you'll find what you're looking for, but, for new pilots, there is definitely easier ways of finding the information. Having said that, I regularly check them (daily at this stage) but I find a lot of it hard reading, given the numerous acronyms and abbreviations that I have not yet learnt.

Still, I very much appreciate the information that has been put together in all 3 locations - The player base should be very much commended for its detail!

That's good stuff, but there's something to be said for the personalized help you can get by joining a newbie-friendly corp. That way, when someone says "MWD sig radius bloom is tough, so we need a ceptor" you can actually ask what "MWD", "sig radius" and "ceptor" are, and how the hell they're related. Incidentally, my corp is a relatively new corp and does this.

And so as to not leave you hanging: "sig radius" is short for "signature radius", which is how easy your ship is to hit or target. Each ship has a base value that gets increased as a downside to shield mods, inertia stabilizers, etc. The Microwarpdrive (MWD) in particular increases your sig radius by a factor of 5, so you become very easy to hit/target, albeit being very fast. Interceptors (ceptors) get massive skill bonuses to reducing this "MWD bloom", and coupled with their incredibly high speed they make excellent survivable and fast tacklers.

Nice collection of guide links posted in this thread.

+1 'Like' and gratz to all who posted those.

To the OP, best to bookmark all of those guide links. Take some time and browse through all of them. When needed, access the info in each of them. That will cover all viewpoints and aspects resulting in a more complete information base.

Thanks to all who responded, I've read through most of the material posted. Granted I only skimmed to the parts I was concerned with on the 400+ page PDF! Hahahah, but I feel a lot more secure with this daunting maze of a game.

In addition to the ISK guide (which I, too, skimmed the good bits as a reference so far) I found one other pretty good source of information.

I can't use the rookie help channel, because it gets hectic and it's hard to track the conversations.

But (*especially* gallente) the Local chat in rookie systems (I've been living in Clellinon) when it's populated (when it's busy it's about 150) there are always vets around mining veld and system trading, and they chat. So chat them up! Even if you can't find a good corp yet, there are people who hang in Empire space and know the ropes.

The only issue with getting info/advice there is that there are a lot of opinions (kind of like here on the forums) so if you take it all with a grain of salt, you'll take away some knowledge and be better for it.
