I read the CCL brief and this is the way to go if you want your ideas to get serious dev time.

Replying to someone's terrible idea to tell them what a terrible idea it is, is constructive.

Blatant disregard for an individuals opinion and ideas does not really qualify as criticism. I've read some of your responses to recent threads here, and have noticed that you are more interested in putting down the individual than the idea in many cases. How would you define that?

If the terribleness of an idea is self evident there's no reason for me to waste pixels and bandwidth and the time of the other readers explaining it.

Can't argue with that really, and I wouldn't choose to. It's not the lack of explanation or plainly saying an idea is terrible that really caused me to post this. Not all the ideas are actually bad though, and some part of them may have value; for those that are generally just poorly thought out or inherently lack consideration for game mechanics.

Sometimes they are just purely overboard, and extreme in their intended result; yet the base idea actually has merit and could create some really intelligent interplay in the game, while allowing for more variable dynamics and strategy. Unfortunately, the extreme one-sidedness of the presentation and general "nerf the hell out of this," attitude results in not just the expected responses, but an overall inability to see any value there by the more reasonable players.

Bottom line: Considering somebody stupid because they think differently than you is inherently flawed, but not neccessarly within the purview of this argument.

I applied for ISD once before and never recieved any response.

Regardless of that, I'm not sure I'm interested in taking that approach, and I'm not sure how it would grant me Dev time for my ideas, or that it would be appropriate to have that time as a result. Exploitation of the moderator system for the purpose of "gaining Dev time," is what I would consider Conflict of Interest and/or simply unethical use of a position for percieved personal gain.

Also, I'm not interested in circumventing the community to purpose ideas to suit my own interests.

Far as I recall, Features & Ideas forum is supposed to be a place where ideas are presented, discussed, and weighed for their overall value in the game. There are rules in place to enforce this, and it is recommended/requested politely, that if you don't have anything nice to say or constructive criticism to offer, then HTFU.

You find that people who post whine threads like this are people whose cherished ideas are being trashed because they are terrible ideas, poorly thought out, have glaring problems or have been posted so many times before (skillpoints for cash, highsec much safer for example).

One of the emo rage posters in a thread I made claimed his emo raging was his way of showing CCP he did not like the idea and although I thought it was childish he might have a point. If your thread collects lots of "**** off back to wow" or "your idea is **** noob" responses then this could show it is a bad idea.

Not when those responses are all from the same person.

Just report it, you know, by clicking that little flag.

If post dont contain some explanation why the proposal is bad, or is abusive, its trolling. I assume moderators here have a huge amount of work, so that flagging system is added to make moderation easier.

Use it.

There is a report option, as said by many in this thread but I will say one thing. I do think the OP of an idea, should put a little time into it before posting.

This means looking to see if it's been suggested before, have they thought through many of the details and it's impact on the game. Can they say why it needs to be changed and this doesn't just mean because they want it.
The trouble is there are so many really bad ideas that come through this area and many many repeats. I can understand why some post the way they do to some threads. If the poster hasn't put at least a little effort into his OP, then it can show and makes others think the same in replying.

But then there is the other side, where the OP simply doesn't like the fact that you disagree, then resorts to either straw man, Ad hom, or straight up personal attacks. So it's not a one way street in this regard.

Can I ask what thread brought on this suggestion? There must be some posting somewhere, that tipped the balance for you.

Something that is self evident to some may well not be to others. Hence how trolls still get bites and all.

What's wrong with negative criticism? Why would want to have only positive posts praising what a great idea something is and nothing saying your idea is wrong?
