Don't mine during Incursions!

Yesterday I went on an Exploration Roam in High Sec. After I while I came across an incursion infested system. I found some nice combat sites and an average Gravimetric site with some fat low sec ores.

So I fly-in my mining fleet (2 Hulks (Fitted for mining and not for tanking) and 2 Orcas) and start happily mining away.
Then all of a sudden the Belt rats show up. Not the usual 2-3 frigs. No, a total of 8 frigs, 4 cruisers and 2 Battleships!

My jaw drops! I am still in the process deciding if I shall launch my Drone fleet (10 x Hammerhead II and 5 x Hobgoblin II) when the explosions start and all the warning sirens go off. Now my only thought is, GTFO!

Luckily I managed to get all my ships out of the Belt. Both hulks were in low hull, 1 Orca in Mid Armor.

Was a fun time. Lol
Fly safe!

Yes it's a little more challenging than your average NPC belt rats that can be tanked by a civillian shield booster. NPC rats in high sec are little more than noise generators.

my second or third week in I was mining in an incursion system in a new destroyer.... (yes I was still new)
It took them almost 12 seconds to blow me out of the belt and limping home in my pod.... Oops

I learned the hard way to avoid the incursion systems

We need more miners in Incursion-space!

Makes you wonder if it is actually profitable to mine those roids if tanked properly.

This pure Orca character is for sale.

Maybe with and tanked ships, and some escorts.

Even with a decent mining fleet, you'd maybe need a BC about to help take out the BS rats. Maybe a use for the new tier 3 ones, since they have enough punch.
Or just have some sentries deployed.

I've not actually tried mining in an Incursion area - but - I have used some destroyers in a high security system to fight the Incursion Rats. I think due to the security level of the system the rats weren't that bad. They were tough frigates but they were still frigates. They used stasis webifiers but you could still warp out and you could kill them from a distance if you kept it.

I do believe that if you got in there and cleaned them all out - you might get a while when there were none there. In this case - you might be able to call in your miners. I'd just be ready to warp back out if more Sansha's showed up.

It is the kind of thing where you'd either be doing ninja mining or have an escort though.

One other problem you're going to have though is with the number of other players showing up for the incursion, some of whom may decide to cruise the belts while waiting for their fleet to form. They may find your miners are more fun to mess with than the rats.

Why not 1 Orca and 3 Hulks? I can see using the 2nde Orca to haul, but I still imagine 3+1 to be more efficient, even if mining needs to be interrupted when the sole Orca hauls.

Since the asteroid types within a system don't change when the Incursion CIrcus comes to town - no. Just go 2-4 systems away and mine.

The exception would be finding a grav site with lo-sec ores in a hi-sec incursion area. Usually, lo-sec ore is worth about 50% more per m3 then hi-sec ore. But right now, the 3 lo-sec ores of Jasp/Hemo/Hedb are only about 15-20% better then hi-sec ores like Pyrox, Kernite and Plagioclase. So in this case, trying to tank Incursion system rats would probably not be worth it, even in a lo-sec ore grav site.

It was a Grav site in High sec with low sec ores. Some juicy fat Jaspet, Hemorphite and Hedbergite roids.
For me they are profitable, as I build stuff and I can use these special minerals.

I use 2 hulks as it is easier to handle. Mining should be relaxing. Cool

I just forgot that during incursions, rats are a "lttle" bit different then usual.

Possibly a Hedberg/Hemo/Jasp site........but more than likely less value than a Pyrox/Kernite site, from reduced ore intake per hour due to the tank.

Just do it in non-Incursion Systems and be DONE with it.........................unless one just enjoys the risk for LESS money for some odd reason.

These numbers ARE indeed correct, including the comment about the 15-20% better only (and recently). Which has indeed been a strange development.

Normally one ore will change, like Kernite replacing Plagioclase as #1 High Sec Ore in August 2010, shortly replaced by Pyroxeres in October 2010 with announcement of Nocxium reqirement for ye olde Noctis.

But that entire CLASS of Low Sec Ores has just been dropping. Almost not even worth scanning for in High.........

....any IDEAS why ????
