Abandoned Distress Call Encounters

This is a reference for someone I was talking to in game. They were suggesting that exploration should be "simplified" by having some mechanism by which the game will tell you that there are sites worth investigating. I suggested that this was dumbing the game down too much and would effectively ruin the joy of exploration (part of which joy is finding a site that is worthwhile amongst all the wormholes and grav sites, etc)

To lend support to my erstwhile conversation partner's idea, here are two previous threads on "distress call" missions. The idea is that they are opportunities that arise randomly, forming a conceptual midpoint between exploration sites and mission sites.
