EVE is an economic simulation where supply and demand are governed by overall bloodlust.

EVE is actually freedom in the mmo genre.

According to the list so far I don't see any reason why people should curse 'space barbies!' with such vitriol. I did notice that I couldn't give my toon a paunch he is ripped to perfection maybe that's the genetic engineering?

Why does discussing WIS cause people to talk about what EVE is more that discussing what EVE is?

My concerns are not with WiS itself, but with the fact that implementing its backend (for large numbers of avatars - say 200+) is going to be a big technical challenge. So far the only MMO that's ever succeeded is DAoC (I've heard something about 3000+ avatar combats), and my personal experience with reverse engineering the SL protocols make me wonder even more how they did it.

There are some things on the horizon that I'm watching that may mitigate this soon (such as this), so I still have some optimism.

To me, Eve is the new Freelancer.

Right now, its mostly just space freelancer with sexy ships and pretty lights.

But I hope that someday, I could land on some city with my big ass capital ships and go for a walkabout around that city, leaving my ship(s) in some star port until I feel like using it again, meet new people and find interesting ways to kill them or rip them off.

And after a long days work, I could head on over to the nearest gentlemen establishment and put my feet up while watching scantly clad ladies dance my troubles away on bar counters and poles over a nice cold brewskie.

That last bit is moderately ironic.

As for me, I feel that EVE is an experience; one that I am not always happy with, and often at odds with. It's more than a multi-player environment, but less than a community; a place which sits in some genre resembling pulp fiction, and often fails to impress.

I stopped playing EVE not because my computer crashed and burned; but rather because of the seeming lack of value in it's multi-player environment some time before. EVE is like watered down coffee these days; in that you join for a multi=player experience and get less than what you were expecting.

Players are downright anti-social in many cases, often beligerent and narcisistic, and generally hunch down in little groups fending off the dark with what little fire they have. Not exactly an environment that breeds trust and makes for easy friendships.

Spending a week on these forums after 3 months absense, has made me feel that I'm not entirely interested in coming back. I haven't even stepped foot in the game yet, (having only started picking up parts for repairing and rebuilding my PC), and the attitude of many of these players here, has made me wholy uninterested in reinvesting my time in that gameworld.

So-to me-EVE is really just a questionable use of my time now; when I could most likely be more effectively investing it in something else that will make me happier.

Strangely, I still want to try.
