good planets

I am looking into doing some PI in w-space. Generally, what should I be looking for in a set of planets to make good isk . The question is vague because my experience is so limited, I am mainly looking to avoid major mistakes when I pick the system I set up in. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Also, are there any planets that are particularly valuable?

Anyway, you are basically looking for a lot of gas, lava, and barren planets to make POS fuel. Plasma and storm are nice for simplifying things. Temperate is rare in w-space, but not critical.

Pretty much spot on. I would stress plasma a bit more if you want to make Robotics, Enriched Uranium, or Mechanical Parts. It really is the best source of Noble Metals and you will have trouble keeping up with your other resources if you use a barren for it.

Make sure you have good scanning skill. Planetology 4 and Advanced Planetology 3 provide adequate results with minimal time investment. If you try and scan out planets without decent skills you will end up placing your extractors in horrible places. Look for planets with good areas of concentration of the resource/s you are looking to extract. For WH or 0.0 this usually means red to white with the slider all the way up.

Actually storm planets are better than gas giants.
They are smaller, meaning less resources consumed by links and you could produce not only cooland, but also rocket fuels
which pays also good.

Yes, storm planets are generally better, but somewhat rarer and if you do not have one, it does not kill the fuel production. The changes in link cost should help a bit with the huge size of gas giants, but I have not redone any PI setups lately, so I have not played with the changes.

Also, especially if you are going to have more than one person (or account, or even alt) operating PI in the system, it doesn't hurt to have lots of planets - 9 or 10 seems to be a typical 'good' number, avoid systems (generally) with less than 8.
