Living in a C3 wh

I'm thinking about moving into a C3 wormhole and I found out that C3's do not have a wh static, they only have k-space statics. So I'm wondering is the likely hood of connecting to some kind of wh c1 - c4 pretty high? or does it sometimes go like a week without connecting to one. If it's a week i think i will pass on living in the C3, I just want to always have sites available to run.

I don't know about C3's. I have been in a C1 for about 5 months. Like a C3 it only has one static to k-space. But there are others that have C1 statics. It obviously goes in waves. I can have a WH neighbor a couple times a days to a week without any. If I had to average I'd say a few times a week.

Given that one of the most popular types of systems seem to be a C2 with static C3, I would guess you would see connections more often in a C3.

Honestly the problem I have generally found with these connections for farming, is that since they are k162's into my WH, they are usually active WH occupants, which makes it more dangerous to farm their system, if they left anything behind to begin with.

If you're wanting to farm other w-systems via your static then you will probably be better off living in a C2 (or C4 / 5 / 6) system with a static wormhole connecting to the type of system you wish to farm.

C3s always have k-space statics, leading to hisec, lowsec, or nullsec. When you're in a C3 your connection to other w-systems is sporadic and via K162s from those systems or the occasional de-novo (not K162 and not static) wormhole.
By definition every system that connects to you via a K162 is occupied, at least at the time that the K162 spawns. Some will, of course, be spawned by visitors but you're less likely to find unoccupied systems via K162s than via your own static WHs.

Having lived in several C3s for quite a while now, my experience is that it's rare to go more than a week without getting at least one incoming K162. In the last two weeks (from memory) my C3 incoming K162s have come from nullsec (1), unknown space - C1/2/3 (2), dangerous unknown space - C4/5 (2), and deadly unknown space - C6 (1). Of course there could be others that were spawned and collapsed before I had a chance to check them out.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

From purely an income perspective, you always move into a wh based on what it is you want to farm. That is to say, if you want to farm a c3 then you live in a wh that has a static to a C3. The spawns in w-space are not enough to support more than a couple of people if they intend to farm solely the system they're living in. I hear that a static to null can indeed be profitable.

With that said, however, it's important to realize that there is more to w-space than farming. As such, if you're a PVP'er and you live to kill then a static to losec or null is what you're looking for. So, living in a C3 might be good for you. But I wouldn't depend upon it for a steady stream of isk.

Having lived in a C1, C2, C3, and C5 I can tell you that there is some benefit to having a static connection a type of wormhole you want to raid. To full exploit this you'll need to have at least 2 Orcas and enough people to defend those Orcas. Basically you collapse your static until you get a static with what you want. On the other hand a static route to HS is generally preferred by most corps. With a static to a c1-3 you can go days without a safe route to HS. Either the connecting worm hole is hostile, only leads to LS/NS or the static is on a timer. (Not a problem if you have a pair of Orcas, and 2-3 defenders with ecm.)

Personally I prefer a C4-6 /w a static C1. It takes a lot of guts and willingness to be stuck in a hole for weeks to bring in BS, Carriers, and Dreads to take down a POS. At the same time the inhabitants can bring and take out BS, Carriers, and Dreds every few weeks. Basically the only way in with such ships is a random connection which won't out last a POS reenforcement timer, and it could take weeks for a new suitable hole to open.

I have lived in a dozen different holes. In my experience, these are my learnings.

C3 with lowsec was best PVP; people roaming lowsec, doing lowsec missions, doing lowsec plexes. Easy logistics, once a month you will naturally land in a lowsec system nextdoor to Empire and not too far from a market hub. Lowsec is also loaded with other wormholes - do't be so damn lazy you never scan your exit system and surrounds for ISK or pew pew in other wormholes. Srsly. ISK wise, probably the second best.

C3 with nulsec. Fantastic ISK even though we were region-locked to Perrigen Falls and DRF space, didn't matter, you farm drone rats like a bawss and scoot through to hisec for a Orca load of refines and your Q.Q becomes $.$. Radars, high-end drug ladars/implent ladars, mag sites, plexes, anoms, you have it all. PVP wise, was good, but null is blobby and full of big powerblocs with efficient intel chanels of people spotting you in local; frustrating with cloaky botters, logoffski botters, and supercaps dropped on your K346 by the dozen. Will be awesome if you have a coherent, motivated core of PVPers and can field 10-20 pilots to take on the numpty's who come sit on your exit in a bubble. Logistically a PITA, you get null-low connections rarely, K162s from C2's and C3-C4's rarely, which may lead to hisec, or you can often get direct hisec through the masses of N432 to C5s.

C3 with hisec. Don't waste your time unless you mine or suck gas and are a weenie. Most dangerous hole to live in, siege wise, plan on losing a POS within 3 months because the D382 is a horror show. PVP is entirely from people stumbling in from hisec and hunting you.

C2 with C3 static. Decent ISK because C3's are still nominally soloable, decent PVP in the statics, decent logistics. Difficult to find an empty one, and you have to invest in decent defences with no leeway for borking it up. Quite a few are now controlled by alliances.

C2 with C4. If you have an active corp with a minimum of 5 hardcore WH tragics in your timezone, you can make this work. However, since C4's are generally nowhere near soloable and the ISK/hr sucks gonads, you are relying on your corpies to come together for group PVE sessions to make any money. The majority (60-70%) of C4's are empty, so you have absolutely crap PVP opportunities. Logistics is a breeze. You'll probably have to evict some russians or a large alliance power from most of these.

C2 with C1. TThe king of PVE for casual small corps, these have good PVP (generally nubs inhabit C1's), good PVE, good logistics. The C1 is, however, harder to collapse efficiently, given you cannot run BS's through them, nor orcas, so it is laborious and risky if your neighbours aren't utter nubbinses.

C5 with C2/C1. If you inhabit a C5 with either of these statics, you will be building caps, and fighting caps, and generally have a sodding great deathstar. Or you better - don't be disarmed by your static being a low-end WH. PVP wise, probably fairly good, with easymode logistics via the C2 or C1; income wise not the best.

C4 with C2. Logistically relatively easy, with average PVE in the static (C2's are nothing to write home about at 35-45M ISKhr), but great PVP opportunities given the variety of static configs of C2 wormholes. However, agin, you will want a reasonably organised corp to farm your home sites, and reasonably hadcore wh tragics to make the PVP work for you. My experience was that the home C4's didn't get done, everyone pissed off to hisec to run incursions, and it became a joke.

Thats what I've lived in. I'll also comment on stuff I haven't.

C2 with Low/C2. This is a decent hole to inhabit, combining the PVP opportunities and average logistical complications of the lowsec static, with decent PVP and reasonable logistics in the C2 static. You'll have less traffic than a hisec, and OK ISK making.

C2 with null/C5 or null/C6 (rare). I think you would want to inhabit this hole ONLY if you were fantastic at planning and executing your logistics, AND had 6-8 hardcore T3 pilots who are able to run C5's. Forget C6's. You'll get good action in nullsec, as with the C3/K346, but since you have the other static you really want to exploit that first and foremost. If you don't have this, you will find life in here a hassle with no reward.

C1 with lowsec or nullsec static. These holes can be fantastic ISK via the static, and great pew pew, much like the C3 equivalents. Except, of course, you will find it a pain to collapse the hole so you could get camped in by lowsec pirates or nullsec bears. The Z060 nullsec hole, you'll find it a pain mostly because you cannot hoof in an Orca load of minerals, nor could you JF to a station in lowsec and use industrials to get it in the hole. Clearly a hole for logistical masochists.
