OK well I'm working towards 'launching' my corp and making it public. Part of my purpose for this is new player orientation. With that in mind I am compiling a set of links regarding various subjects for our 'guides' section of our forums.

What would be nice though I thought would be properly written dedicated guides. So I thought as well as ask everyone what would be there top 5 links that best helped you to learn EVE, I would ask..

if you like writing and are knowleagble on any particular subject in EVE, have you any interest in poducing an article to be posted on the co-op forums?

And for every one else what would be your top 5 best links that helped you learn EVE?

Should you post EVELOPEDIA*5 or THEFORUMS*5, I'll give you extra points for originality but deduct some for wasting your time Big smile

While I appreciate the advice, joining a corp is not something I'm planning on doing ATM but thanks anyhow.

Frankly this forum never ceases to amaze me.

Post 'CCP should develop...' or ' Rate the avatar above you's belly button fluff' , mention Wis or Dust and bam 6 pages within a couple of hours. Shocked

There you go. But listen, the reason you aren't getting much help is because if you don't know this stuff already, then you aren't going to be much help and you aren't going to do much of a service to new players (imo).

So how about gimme your top 5 links ( excluding forum and evelopedia ) throw in your best shot at insulting me, and I'll put up 2 10 mill bonuses, one for best links IMO, and one for best insult ( as judged my me, insults without link list will not be deemed eligible for the bonus ) Twisted

Not so much rage just puzzlement and perhaps a lttile frustration at the time and effort some people seem to put into there forum PvP but they can't take 1 minute to copy paste a couple of bookmarks out there browser to help someone out (and by proxy perhaps help a lot of people out), doesn't really speak well for the community spirit of the community IMO.

Frankly I didn't use much in the way of online guides to learn to play. Hell, I never even used EVEMon for my skills (and still do not). I'm crazy like that.

There are some sites that have been massively useful, though:


  • Battleclinic Loadouts: http://eve.battleclinic.com/browse_loadouts.php - Good place for cookie cutter fits, horrible fits, and lots of trolling.
  • Battleclinic Killboard: http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/index.php - Good place for even more horrible fits, plus good fits and "learning from the best" (seeing how very successful pilots fly their ships).
  • Verite Influence Map: http://go-dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Verite/influence.png - Absolutely necessary if you want to discuss politics.
  • Dotlan Eve Maps: http://evemaps.dotlan.net/ - Didn't like it at first (preferred Ombey's maps) but grew to really like Dotlan and now I use it on a daily basis.
  • Eve Central - http://eve-central.com - "Do I go to Rens or to Jita to buy/fit a Jaguar cheaply?" Edit: I also run an Eve business with an alt, and the Eve Central API is invaluable to getting some insight into the market and allowing me to run profitably. That's probably not something a newbie would do, though.
  • Google: http://google.com - Yes, I am an ******* and will link Google. If you know your Google-fu you can find a lot of good-quality Eve info, despite it being scattered all over the place.
  • Edit: Eve Offline: http://eve-offline.net - Sanity check for those of us with horrible internet connections.


I have mostly learned how to fly by losing a lot (I mean a lot) of Rifters, and by talking to people. It's amazing how often someone who just killed you will actually give you tips on how to do better next time.

All that said, if you're looking for Eve "guide" writing, I really have to give myself a shameless plug: http://blackshell-eve.blogspot.com . I run a "lessons newbies learn the hard way" blog that I occasionally update. I have been told some of my content on there is amusing and perhaps even informative. If you'd like me to write something more serious (and have some ISK or other incentive Blink) then count me in as interested.
