So, the Theology Council disagrees with that imperial edict prohibiting mistreatment done to slaves ? Or is abusing slaves not considered a mistreatment ?
Do you have a reference to that imperial edict?

It was the policy of Emperor Doriam II that slaves should be treated humanely. As far as I know, that policy (which led to the formation of the SPCS) has never been reversed.

As far as I know, the good Emperor intended to implement those ideas, but never got around to it. Be that as it may, though, on YC 110.03.25, a bit over four years after the tragic death of Doriam II, the Theology Council decreed in a case of severe neglect and abuse of slaves[1] that [t]he ownership of slaves is a right given to the Amarr by God and it is not for the Theology Council to interfere in this case. We do, however, stress to all Amarr citizens to be responsible in dealing with their charges. Slaves are an expensive commodity and should not be wasted. [2] That is, as I said, the Amarr believe that it is the Godgiven right of an Amarr to abuse their slaves, even though they consider it a "waste."

(A quick note to conclusion-jumping Amarrians: Simply treating slaves "nicely" is not the entirety of what the conflicts regarding slavery are about.)

Edit: Come to think of it, that news story is the archetypical Disciples of Ston story, isn't it? It describes exactly what they are about. A fitting thread for this.

Somehow, I don't think the theology council shares the same definition of "humane" as I do.

Being happy seems not to be a concern at all that the empire seems to care about after all, I think certain other forms of slavery are much more humane.

A good job too, considering your Sanshaesque sympathies.

Perhaps they could teach you a thing or two about how to treat your slaves.

My slaves are kept in accordance with SPCS guidelines.

This seems to be one of those rare instances where I find myself agreeing with Admiral Blake.
