New Year Corp Thieves

The first few days of 2012 mark a terrible start of a new year for Global Economy Experts as we've fallen victim to a heinous crime of theft of billions of isk of member assets in both of our wormholes.

The first thief has been with GEX for a good year working his way up through a supposedly fabricated persona, who was supposedly "hired by a merc corp as a freelancer specializing in deep cover espionage" to "damage GEX and that [he] could keep whatever [he] got out of the wormhole". He came clean after the fact as quoted above and said that "One of the officers of that corp did tell [him] informally that they had some sort of run in with GEX awhile back and they've been holding a grudge and planning to get back at [us] for awhile". The guy claims to have another main (undisclosed) that is going to receive the proceeds from the sale of the stolen goods.

The toons that he used to infiltrate GEX are hereby published as a warning to anyone who may consider accepting them into the corp or buying those characters include:

Josnox's heist has failed though as he previously had the opportunity to run with a lot more a lot earlier, but as he claimed, he got a bit fond of his stay in GEX and the friendships that he has built, and only recently when things have slowed down a bit for us, has he decided to finally back-stab those who have nurtured him all along and make a run for it. He also wasn't too good at covering his tracks and left a list of contacts publicly available, which he has locked down after we circulated it inside the corp, suggesting that he may still have insiders planted in GEX. That list includes the following and may or may not contain any of his associates, his main or the corp that hired him (some GEX members including myself were in that full contract list):

The list above is not incriminating anyone in particular and is not to be treated as defamation of anyone listed, as it may contain other victims who should take note from now on. But that list is a good list to start looking for his associates. Josnox claims that he will destroy his thieving toons not to be used again, but he may also keep them, so watch out.

Josnox claims to have had no hand in our second wormhole that got robbed soon after, while openly boasting about the first.

Once the boasting mail from Josnox was circulated in the corp, someone made their move to clean out the second wormhole a few hours later with a window of about 6 hours before the first report of missing stuff came through. Billions more isk have gone missing. Whether it was an associate of Josnox or his other alts, is not yet confirmed, but we do have solid proof of who the thief was and his close partner in crime. We have engaged them to come clean, return the goods and compensate those affected in return for not disclosing their identities to the public, and if they do not comply shortly, you will all know who they are. This does not exclude anyone else who may have been involved and we are still investigating the incident.

We have gone a great length to ensure the security and safety of member assets in GEX and we will be tightening our security even further. We do not exclude the possibility of future infiltration into the corp, as it can happen to anyone, but we will make damn sure to minimize any potential damages and to make it a lot harder for anyone else to get away with anything too valuable worth their while, considering other easier targets out there. Mean no disrespect to other corporations, and I truly wish that everyone else took security of their corp and member assets a lot more seriously to put all the necessary measures in place to minimize exposure to the scum that is alive and thriving in the free for all universe of EVE.

All that to say and yet again.. Derp we trusted some guy and got ripped. Rule of thumb in eve...

-Don't trust him if he isn't Stupidly more rich then you, meaning it usually isn't worth the effort (Keyword is Usually)

He didn't need extensive roles, he ran with member assets. Unless the members all bring sufficient alts with sufficient skills to log out in every spaceship they have at a corp pos in a WH, then there will be rank and file member assets in the hanger that can be stolen.

The thieves has been given the chance to come clean and they totally ignored our demands in regards to hard-founded accusations. They made no effort to defend their honor, only sneering back, happy to get away with billions even at the cost of tarnishing future of their characters among the fair community of EVE.

Hard evidence can be made available on demand to anyone concerned, linking the theft directly to Bezel Lumen and his close associate maoriwarrior.

While we do not know for sure, there are strong leads to suggest that both of these toons may be the same guy in RL, or their are flatmates or real close friends in RL, as they are in close contact with each other in RL, capable of dragging each other online within minutes. All the actions they have performed in GEX were perfectly in sync, all the way from the same interview conversation where replies from them both were alternating and very much along the same tune, all the way to the minute precision dropping of all their roles in preparation to leave the corp about 3 hours after the first theft announcement has been circulated and just a few hours before the first few reports of the second wormhole (where they were stationed at) came through.

Given the urgency of the investigation that has taken place right after and most everyone else coming through with any leads and alibis they could offer, neither Bezel nor maoriwarrior offered any plausible explanation for dropping roles hours after a remote WH that got cleaned out (which had no direct connection to the second one and posed little threat to their assets which were safe and sound at the time) then abandoning their cheaper assets back in the second wormhole only to end up with no roles back in Jita once the investigation commenced with only hours to go before leaving corp altogether. If they genuinely cared for GEX, they would have stayed to help us sort out the mess. If they genuinely cared to leave the corp they claim they could no longer trust, they would have made an effort to remove their relatively valuable assets from the wormhole before dropping roles. We did have a high sec exit route out of the wormhole at the time, so the opportunity was definitely there for them to leave the WH with their assets and not to pod themselves as they claimed to have done. Instead they gave a lame excuse that they went shopping for new T3s in Jita and podded themselves to get to high sec sooner. That is the only thing offered, with no Full API Keys to verify any claims or any more backing information. In short, just Bullshit. Instead they used the high sec exit and a short window of inactivity in that wormhole to move out half a dozen or more Orcas, that did not belong to them, filled with multi-billion isk T3s, factions BShips and other T2 ships which were of higher value than whatever crap they left behind, that in comparison with the stolen goods was not worth their time. Needless to say, the cargoholds of those Orcas were filled with any other lose assets they could grab from the member shared hangars. They have been caught with a slip up on their part, leaving another member's can floating at the POS after they cleaned it out without that member's permission. Once they left the corp, the can has gone yellow and checking info on that floating can revealed that Bezel Lumen was the last to jettison it out. Got a screenshot of that if anyone is interested to verify. Once confronted with that proof, they made no comment nor cared to explain why they would be going through member cans and jettisoning them emptied out in space.

Both Bezel Lumen and maoriwarrior joined a small corp of their own, Toilet Emergency [P00PZ], potentially run by their alts.

Terra Australis Holdings [-TAH-], the previous corp of both thieves, still houses other alts and associates of theirs that are most likely worthy of the same fate as the thieves...

maoriwarrior is a big fan of EOH poker so you may see him there gambling away his newly found wealth...

We are yet to tally up all the isk-wise damage done, but it already sounds in the tens of billions of isk. The investigation is still under way to find any other potential thieves involved. We have been hit hard in both wormholes by unrelated or associated parties, but this is not going to slow us down and we will surely recover. The thieves should start watching their backs from now on, as they have it coming...

tl;dr

I highly doubt coincidence. The chances of two sets of corp thieves within the same Corp taking out both WH's within hours of each other is just too low.
