High sec POS question.

I'm currently grinding standings so I can put up a high sec POS to do some BPO research and I want to make sure I understand the mechanics of how this is going to work so I don't get any unpleasant surprises later.

I have an alt in a one man corp with the necessary skills to set up a POS and do research in a mobile lab there. I'll be keeping the BPO's in a station in the system and using scientific networking to research them remotely of course.

Anyway, what I'm concerned with is the mechanics of what happens if I get war decced. As I understand it I have 24 hours after the war dec before the attacking corp can actually attack me or the POS. During this 24 hour period I can take down the POS and move it to a station correct?

I have had so many POSes blown up at losses I can't really tolerate losing anymore, hence the move to high sec.

So, as long as I log on once a day at least to check for war decs, I can always take down my POS and move it to safety before anyone can attack it correct?

For someone who has been playing EVE so long you should know that the best place for a research POS is in high sec space. It's a no brainer. No insult intended.

Yes you have the option within the 24 hours to dismantle your whole POS set up i you decide to do so.

Yes I'm aware that its the safest place but I was trying to fly under the radar in low sec and do the research there and have a moon miner running getting some cheap materials to help subsidize the running costs of the POS.

But people will shoot at anything they can in Eve. Apparently no practical reason is needed. lol

If there is a lab in lowsec, that is plenty reason to attack for most pirates. Chances of tasty BPOS can bring much profits, and generally it's a safe bet that the person with a research pos in lowsec has the BPOS in the lab itself :)

As for taking it down, you can take it down whenever you like, but you'll need to repackage the lab too after cancelling all your jobs I think or the production queues will stay intact (Not 100% on this though)

Having done the high sec war decing for POS pops, I can give you a piece of advice. Setup a large quantity of defenses on the POS, but leave them offline. Them being there will deter most people from wanting to do anything with it. If you get a war dec, simply offline your research gear if you want, and online the defenses. With just one of each hardener and a hanfull of turrents, it becomes very difficult to do anything to even a small online tower in high sec.
