Ive finally grinded my way up to be able to do level 2 missions. Ive been training the core skills like most posts recomend on the forum. So at the minute i am still in a Rifter.
Will a well fitted rifter be able to cope with lvl 2 missions or am I going to have to put my core skills training on hold to train for maybe a cruiser? (2 days training but another 5 days on top for recomended certificates)

Pick up a Rupture. Medium projectiles, minnie cruiser. A rifter doesn't really have the sustainable tank for lv2s.

I remember doing L2s in my destroyer while training cruiser skills. Should work even better now that they've been un-nerfed. Although once you have have the skills to fly your cruiser you should jump into one asap.

Save your rifter though and take it with you. Strip it, put in a shield extender and an afterburner. If you should get the mission chain 'recon' use that instead. Just warp in, head to the gate on AB (or MWD if you want to fit one) and then hit the gate and warp out (or in mission two warp away when you get the mission complete message. In three missions you walk away with over two million isk. There are a few other level 2s that you can do this with as well, so bring it with.

For the other stuff get a Rupture, get some drone skills up so that they can catch the close range faster stuff.

This message brought to you by Experience(tm). When common sense fails you, experience will come to the rescue. Experience(tm) from the makers of CONCORD.

your gonna want to do level 3 and level 4 missions after that, and if you waste your time on Cruisers and frigates your out of luck because tech 1 cruisers are only good for pvp and ganking other people and like level 1 stuff.

Train for a battlecruiser, Harbinger, Hurricane, drake are well known for being excellent for level 3's and some level 4's.

Level 4's are a whole different level with low Skill points and coming from Level 3's so your gonna have to either train those core skills after you become efficient at doing level 3's in preparation for, I guess your gonna end up in a Maelstrom if you continue on the Minmitar route.

your number 1 goal is a battlecruiser in preparation for running level 3 missions.

If you are taking the game slowly rather than rushing, yes a Cruiser is the next step.

You will get a much stronger tank on a cruiser and of course larger weapons. You will be in that ship a long time because you may find several agents with level 2 missions that you want to work through.

If you are set on staying with the frigate, read up on Speed Tanking - getting in close and fast and orbiting at close ranges that guns on larger ships can't track efficiently at.
