new laptop, launcher installed but game wont start

Hi all,

I recently bought a new laptop and installing EVE but the game wont start.

Here's what I have and what I have done.

ASUS Zenbook pro
Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64bit
Cinnamon verison 3.4.4
Intel i7-6700 CPU @ 2.6Ghz x4
RAM 11.6 Gb
Nvidia GTX 960m

I've donwloaded Snorlax EVE client, extracted at /home/pjotr/EVE
When I start evelauncher.sh in terminal, the launcher starts perfectly, but when I've put in my credentials and hit play, the triangle left to the account name turns into a square and another happens.
After about 10 seconds, the square turns into a triangle again.

Here's the info from terminal:

I'm guessing you need winetricks. It seems to bring in a couple overlooked dependencies.

I guess not. I installed winetricks after your suggestion, but it isn't the solution I was hoping for.

I get these errors when logging is running and I launch the game from the launcher:

Hi!

So let me preface this with saying I have no clue what your problem is and I'm too drunk to figure it out. I don't play eve anymore really but it's all a bit interesting so with that being said consider the following:

1) It looks like you've installed the launcher under ~/EVE (/home/pjotr/EVE) which is not the expected behavior. It's usually ~/evelauncher/evelauncher.sh and allowing the launcher and client to populate both ~/.eve and ~/.EVE respectively is the norm. That said nothing in your errors speak to that I'm just pointing it out.

2) Do you have lib32-libldap or the mint equiv? A question that came up a lot when I played and less people were hip to the then beta evelauncher is that you need 64bit linux but with 32bit libs... all around... Your wine, linux-header, Qt5, etc all need to be there as 32 bit because the client is 32 bit.

3) Ish. A quick googling suggests ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is needed to avoid outdated ldap lib issues in certain circumstances.

4) You first 2 post contained output that mostly you can ignore and consider not to be the issue at hand. The triangle square is play and stop. Going from play to stop means a failure to launch and as you've already gathered the errors from that will be in ~/.local/share/CCP/EVE/Launcher or your distro's equivalent. Post those after everything your try and post what you tried. And your directory structure. Which is somewhat questionable to me.

Thank you sir, you've helped me a few steps further :)

Now it's possible to start the game, but after a few minutes of playing, the game freezes and also the launcher freezes.

And I've noticed EVE has no sound. while the settings are correct and I hear spotify playing. So no, it isn't my sounds settings :)


I see the following error in the logging:

Cool beans. That's progress anyway. So looking around it's probably a compatibility issue with your nvidia drivers/directx. It's probably just too damned fast heh. If you're not using the proprietary drivers try them or maybe even a slightly older version of them. Try switching to DX11 too it may actually work better. If your still getting crashes try fiddling w/ a few bios settings, see here:
