Hi i'm a few weeks into this game. I noticed small margin on NPC trade goods But the time it takes to putt around is not worth it as there is no real supply and demand system for NPC stations. It would of been cool is planets and colonies put out buy orders for things they lacked to function. So buying soil and selling to a agri world or to a orbital farming station at a higher price would be nice.

But my question is, is this trading system pointless? Seems to me the margin is to low the travel time is to long and sales volume is never high enough. If you only make 30 isk per item to get a decent return you would need 10s of thousands of units. and sales seem to be in the 10s or 100s. at low price.

I think im going to give up on this venture as I feel it needs reworked in to some useful supply demand biased system. Or have trade and industrial goods some how tie into colony needs so players put in profitable buy orders to keep their people fed and well maintained

Generally yes there is very few npc items sold in low sec which can be profitable only if hauled by large cargo haulers and those systems often have pirates. You want to make isk hauling player contracts are your best bet.

If it hasn't changed too much over the years, I found npc goods trading to be a useful means of understanding some of the market buttons/interface and operations along with the whole set of skills needed to set up routes/destinations and making a successful transaction.

Beyond that, no - it's not worth much in the way of isk, fun or risk.

But it served as a functional tutorial before any such thing existed

There were a few items that were worth it way back in the day. Since the change in NPC station taxes I doubt they are worth it now however.

There are some people who make a fair bit of money by bulk-moving the NPC trade goods. There are some older posts about doing this which you could probably locate if you were persistent.
