What's to stop players from simply buying better ships?

Is there anything at all in place to stop players from just buying PLEX then selling it to other players for $$$? Seems a bit unfair if so..

Also, please excuse the name.

Well, that is what PLEX is used for; people buy it (either through CCP, or approved 3rd party sellers), then redeem it so that they can either use it or sell it ingame on the market.

All the ships ingame, everyone has access to buy or build themselves. Just having the hull however doesn't really mean much either to me. You need first the skills to fly it, and also to know how to really piolit/fit it to really fly it well (especially when it comes to pvp).

If your starting out, the amount of isk needed to buy certain ships may seem like a lot, but as you, yourself gain more experience with the game and earning isk then you can easily buy those ships as well.

I don't use RL cash to buy plex to get isk. I earn isk via what I do ingame.

EDIT: I misunderstood the question, sorry.

Selling PLEX or ISK for $$$ is against the rules, and they will permanently ban you the first time you do it, no discussion.

It's against the rules of the forum to discuss what methods CCP has for detecting such selling, but they do have them, and they do ban people, all the time.

If that is what the OP meant then I definitely misread the question.

Thanks, Memphis.

This game is not like other games where you have balanced PvP and respawn mechanics. When you loose a ship, you loose a ship and other players can loot your wreck for anything that dropped. How that works out is that you typically don't want to buy expensive ships and bling them out unless you are relatively certain that you can mostly avoid PvP in them.

This game is full of stories of players that came here from other MMOs where gear and stats are the end all be all and where there are respawn mechanics that allow you to keep all of your gear and just jump back into battle. They take that knowledge into this game and try similar tactics and learn the hard way why that doesn't work so well here.

Once you get to know this game a bit better I think that you will find giving players the ability to turn real world money into expensive blinged out ships to be a huge positive. Because when players do this groups of other players in far cheaper ships that are picked and fit to perfectly counter the expensive ship are brought out to blow up and loot the unwise player out of his expensive ship.

In other words it's not unfair and it's not a bad thing. A 6 Billion isk deadspace and faction fit Battleship could be easily taken down by a couple of frigates or destroyers which cost less than 10 million isk to replace. So go out and try and buy your way to glory. Just do me a favor... please record it and send me the link to the video of when it gets taken from you with a subject line of "fap warning" so that I know to get out my lube and a clean up towel out before I hit play on the video.

I assume you are talking about ship trades that are within the rules (i.e. no real money changes hands except to CCP).

Ships are consumables in EVE, nothing more. Yes, you can upgrade a Megathron to a Kronos for (about) USD15 by buying PLEX with real money then using that to fund the upgrade. Yes, the Kronos will perform better.

However, the Kronos will also attract much more attention. People that couldn't be bothered killing a Megathron will make effort and take risks to kill a Kronos. And ultimately it will die soon anyway.

Yeah, if you're talking about funding "bling" ships with RL money via the PLEX system, by all means go ahead. All the gankers waiting in high-sec, low-sec, everywhere, will be more than happy to kill your bling ships and loot the wreckage. Bling is awesome for padding people's killboard stats.

Bigger ships aren't better in this game. They may be better at one focused task, but they also get big vulnerabilities with that focus. Going from frigate to bigger ship is like "upgrading" from velociraptor to brontosaur.
