Manual piloting with a touchpad, is it possible?

I've been learning to PvP in factional warfare over the last couple months and I've learnt a lot. The one piece of feedback that I hear most often though is 'learn to manual pilot'. I'm using a laptop with a touchpad similar to this, and I have no mouse at the moment. is it possible to manual pilot with a touchpad, and do it well?

I've found a few ways to try to get around it. For example, by having the camera track my opponent and constantly clicking to the right or left of them, I'm able to keep a very tight orbit (tighter than with the orbit command). But this only works when I want to orbit close. If I want to kite I have to click much more infrequently, maybe once every 8 seconds. This results in a sort of octagonal orbit rather than a circular one. Although maybe this is what it's really supposed to be like? Ugh The problem with this though is that it can only work on a single opponent at any one time, and I'm restricted mainly to orbiting.

Based on my experience, as long as your touchpad can handle multi-touch inputs, you can manually pilot effectively. The biggest downside is that it takes 2 hands in a PvP scenario (hence the multi-touch). No magic advice to offer other than to just do it. Once the muscle memory is built up, you won't even think about it.
