No matter what color it comes in, Eve's interface is pretty much the worst in existence by an order of magnitude :/

OoPpSs ...

So I go to set up a dual monitor and am surprised at how bright the second monitor is ... till I do some diagnosis and discover that my laptop screen is REALLY dim. AcK!?! I got an antique computer - they don't make parts for it anymore! Sigh, back to Toms Hardware to see if they got one last screen in the warehouse, else gonna have to Ebay another dead machine to harvest the screen out of.

EDIT:
And, my setup has my main monitor on the right instead of the left, so after booting the client and before logging in to the client, I have to move my window to the left monitor and then maximize it for my settings to be valid, otherwise I have nothing on my left monitor and only the left half of my client on my right monitor.

EDIT EDIT:
Fixed this, now have a single desktop that spans both monitors. Gotta get used to this, one monitor has the left side of the taskbar and the other monitor has the right side.

EDIT EDIT EDIT:
I have now maxed out my second monitors extra space and am contemplating a third monitor.

"Matrox TripleHead2Go is an external multi-display adapter that adds up to three monitors to your notebook or desktop computer. It connects to the video output of your system and uses its existing GPU to provide high-quality, uncompressed graphics and video across all monitors. Ideal for professionals requiring more desktop space for maximum productivity increases and gamers wanting a totally immersive experience. This small box lets you run different applications on each display or view one application across multiple monitors. A multi monitor set-up lets you organize your workspace more efficiently, multi-task more comfortably and make fewer errors. Available in DisplayPort or Digital Editions."

This thread has indeed proved entertaining for me, it opened a whole new world of display options to me, Thanx All!

Sigh ... just editing a post does not 'pop' the thread, guess I was looking for an opinion on the monitor duplicating gadget I mentioned in my 'edit edit edit', any thoughts?

my UI changes radically depending on what I'm doing, though...

Ok, it is great that I can move my 'center' focus to one side so my action is on one monitor and my screens are on another, but it is durn annoying that my conformation windows pop up over my ship - on the monitor my cursor is NOT on - so I have to travel with the mouse across 3 monitors space to hit a conformation button. Yes yes yes, I can just hit the enter key and all will be fine, but I don't want to have to shift my focus. Whatever conformation dialogue pops up, paying for repairs in my case, the box should pop up over the spot that spawned the window, in my case on top of the repair ship window.

People whine the eve UI is horrible but yet NOBODY has proposed an alternative UI, one which contains ALL the current features which are required to play EVE in a multitude of fashions from bearing to PVPing from subcaps to capitals and market pewpewing. As well as all the detailed stats everything has and plays a role, etc, etc.

My biggest disappointment with EVE is that there is no api (lua or the likes) to where I can customize the UI.

Other games use this method and their game developers, since they own the rights, have saved a lot of man hours by allowing the community to design the best UI elements and implementing them later.

CCP, really... do it.

CCP used this on the fanfest 2/3 years ago and mentioned it in passing. It seems to do the job quite well.

Technology
Seamless Display™ technology integrates separate video panels into a single seamless image. The technology was developed by Dr. Bernard Stark at the Engineering Department, Oxford University.

The first very simple technology demonstrator was released in October 2002 and exhibited at United States Display Consortium's High Resolution Displays Workshop in Arlington, Virginia USA and at the Society for Information Display's Annual Meeting in the UK. Since then Seamless Display has been award several grants and undertaken custom projects for civilian and government organizations which have advanced the implementation of the technology.

Seamless Display™ Explained
Seamless Display™ technology can be applied to any display screens with relatively thin inactive edges. Our patent-pending technique optically erases the distracting borders that normally surround adjoining LCD screens resulting in a clear and uninterrupted picture.

Below are cross sections through two tiled LCD panels. On the left tiled LCDs with the familiar gap that causes so many problems, on the right a Seamless Display™. This uses the same tiled LCDs but removes the gap with the addition of a specially designed lens that refracts the light across the edge of the LCD. This results in a considerable improvement over existing technologies with little light or image loss.

Seamless Display's technology is protected under several U.S. patents including no. 6,927,908 with additional patents pending. In addition to our disclosed inventions we have built up six years of technical know-how and trade secrets.
