Reprocessing Array

Hi,

I just purchased a reprocessing array for my POS. This is necessary for my intended application and performs a role which cannot be matched by the capabilities of a reprocessing service module in a citadel. The reason being that I need something which can be anchored and un-anchored within half an hour and can be carried in either a transport ship or an Orca.

The conventional citadel and reprocessing service modules cannot perform this function because:

1. A citadel will take 24 hrs to anchor and become operational, and will then take a further 7 days to unanchor;
2. The reprocessing service module has a rather large online fuel consumption cost - which the POS does not have; and
3. The reprocessing efficiency bonuses are not avaliable without a rig which would be destroyed when the citadel is unanchored.

Hence, the citadel is simply not a viable option for the nomadic low & nulsec mining operator who needs the ability to either compress or refine the minerals which they mine while in position. In my experience, anchoring a citadel takes far too long and attracts too much attention from local residents in lowsec. Meaning that all hopes of surpise are lost, and the window of opportunity for a successful mining operation in that system is gone.

***

So, having purchased an Intensive Reprocessing Array for my small POS. When will the intended changes to the POS be introduced? Will these changes mean that I'll be unable to use my POS in the manner described above?

Futhermore, would it be possible to have a deployable refinery structure which is able to be deployed and then unanchored in the space of 14 mins like the small POS? This capability is essential to the way which I am currently operating and I feel that the proposed removal of the POS will have a negative impact on this aspect of the game.

You can probably use it for a couple of more months until it will lose it's bonus and finally become non-functional. But POS and stuff investment is a dead end. Would recommend getting comfortable with the new structures, and make some friends / business relationships. Especially for reprocessing ore, there are plenty of public offerings, you don't need to own something.

... and no, there is no small structure for individuals, the Upwell structures are not intended for nomadic usage, neither for solo play.

Well that may be true, and in hisec it's not so much of a concern. As every second system you're likely to find a freeport with reprocessing services. It's not quite the same thing in lowsec, as, citadel owners like to keep to themselves and can be wary about people docking there. Just as I would be wary about having my mining ships visible on the station teather.

Also, while the kind of operation I'm talking about is nomadic The aim is to avoid detection, and this means having as little to do with the local inhabitants as possible. The ideal scenario is where there are no stations, no one in local, no one knows I'm there, and I'm gone after 2 hrs... And I'm not doing this solo. It's best done as a group activity.

But yea, thanks for the response. I'll be sorry to see those structures removed from the game.

Use a Rorqual?

The Rorqual allows you to compress ore and it can be cynoed into and out of systems. This seems like the ideal tool for what you describe. The only downsides are cost and required skill points.

The Rorq isn't quite suitable for all of my needs. Though that is my fault - I'm not going to explain exactly what it is that I'm doing on a public forum.

I am not sure this thread really is in New Citizen territory. Deploying structures for ninja mining in hostile or dangerous territory is more of an advanced topic. Perhaps you would have some better luck in Science & Industry?

My guess though there is nothing that will suit your stated purpose. Your choices for refining/compressing are POSes, NPC stations, Rorquals and Upwell Structures, and POSes are going away soon and there is nothing to replace it. If you can't make a Rorqual work then you will have to change your strategy.

An alternative solution would be to do other stuff than mining, and using the ISK earned from those activities to buy the minerals/ores you need. It always is an option if the very act of mining itself is not the goal.

Yea, well perhaps this might not be the best location for this post. I was first of all seeking information on anything I might have missed, or anything which could do the job I need it to do.

It seems that the law of unintended consequences might catch up with this proposed latest patch.... They are taking away POS, and giving us refineries. Yet the problem is that POS are a very multi-purposed item and can be used in many different ways. The refineries, however awesome they might be, are a structure with a single purpose in mind.

What seems to have been lost on CCP is the portable nature of the POS - and the small POS in particular. Without any similar structures to replace it the fear is that many more dynamic styles of play will be lost. With the game becoming evermore entrenched and static.

This isn't simply about reprocessing, or ninja mining. It is also about the uses of POS as forward staging bases. Like this:

So the question is: If CCP is going to remove the portability which small and medium POS have had to offer, what will we have to replace it?

Nothing, at least as far as they have said.

If you don't like that answer, all I can suggest is to let your concerns be known to CCP or the CSM through the appropriate channels.

I feel with you. I don't like most of the structure changes either. Stopped all my industrial activities for the time being.

Remove standings and insurance.
