Hi there, just a quick idea...

You know how when you set an autopilot route, it displays the path of your route as lines to the systems' stars in space. Those stars are quite distinguishable from your normal background stars and thus easy to pick out visually. I'd like the ability to click on one of those stars and set destination or waypoint.

Of course this wouldn't apply quite the same in W-space, but everywhere else it could give you a sense of being in a galactic neighborhood and subtly encourage a spirit of exploration. You wouldn't need to go to the map to pick a destination, or search for it in P&P if you knew where the star is in space. Just pick one and go find an adventure, or save yourself a few clicks by using your knowledge of the surrounding stars.

This would increase the immersion factor and spatial awareness a lot (for me at least). It also gives you an idle activity to do out in space, something to be curious about that's right there in front of you all the time when you're undocked. "I CAN SEE MY HOUSE FROM HEEERRRE!!" Sorry, random semi-related thought =)

Maybe just give some basic information like name and distance on mouse-over. A new key combo to display the labels of the closest (20-50) stars on screen could be a nice feature. Seems to me you'd get a lot of bang for your buck UI-wise in clicks saved and keeping UI screens hidden more often as people became more familiar with their surrounding systems.

Hope you like!
