Greetings,

Downloading the client at the moment and thought I'd give EVE another go. I stopped playing in 2012, so it's been a while... Cool

I played with 2 characters, this one for venturing around in low sec/null, sec status below 0. Had a small corp. Rifter drifter was the inspiration!

My second was a pve misson, trader and some mining dude.

I'm sure there's been a lot of changes since 2012. I would really appreciate if some one could fill me in on the major ones.

Thanks!

Welcome back to Eve.

I am not sure where to begin. I guess start by looking here http://updates.eveonline.com/

Here is a list of some of the substantial changes from the last 12 months:

There are many many more, and you can find a good list of updates dating back to the third of June 2014 on the updates website linked above. I hope this helps. If you have any questions about any of the updates I mentioned feel free to ask in this thread.

There have also been various changes to skills with new skills added. You can see a list if you go to the Skill Discussions forum and look at the sticky : New Skills sorted by date

I noticed the Alpha model is quite limited. I can hardly fly any of my ships on my other character, so I'll probably have to go Omega straight away.

1. Is it still viable to fly solo in low sec with a frigate and hunt unexpecting pilots or find other sole pvp-minded players there?
2. Has there been any major changes to mining, industry and production?

Hi there, regarding your first question:

A single player can find content in low security space, both as an alpha and an omega clone. However, as you may remember there will always be the blog affect just as there is in null security, wormhole and high security space. Don't let that deter you however, some of the best PVP content can be found in low security space.

Regarding industry, there have been a few changes.

  1. Upwell Structures (Take a look at the citadel link from my earlier post). These can be used for anything from refining, ore compression, or even as a safe base to store your ships, industry and combat alike.

  2. More recently industrial arrays have also been released, this allows you to build items rather than using stations and player owned starbases. You can also allow other pilots access to these structures and charge them fees for using these services.

  3. In the upcoming winter expansion, there will be a major change to moon mining, refineries and reactions.

Thank you!

I have now been playing for some time and I'm catching up more and more each day. I've checked out the industry changes on my other character so I got a pretty good picture of the changes.

However, I have yet to find a fight in low sec. Probably looking in the wrong regions. I used to roam in Molden Heath and Heimatar, but the low sec areas in those regions seem pretty dead, unfortunately.

For you, probably the removal of clone grades. You no longer have to upgrade a clone or risk losing SP upon death. Also related- the removal of 8.0 standings to get jump clones.

Ship rebalance happened over the past few years. Many more ships are viable now than 5 years ago. It's no longer Drakes and Sabres Online, and you have many more options to undock.

T3 cruisers are due for a nerf this summer. The level of dominance you saw with T3's a few years ago is coming to an end.

Power Creep is out of control. You'll probably remember a time when a couple T3's in a fleet meant someone had money to burn, now entire null sec armadas are made of purely T3 or pirate faction ships. Now one side in a minor skirmish will lose what would break whole alliances in the past- and just shrug it off. Economic warfare is debatable in a world where dozens of capitals go down per fight and it basically doesn't even dent the war chest.

Skill Injectors. All that time you spent training to do something cool? Total waste of your time, just plop down your credit card and be flying that titan tomorrow. Actually building up a character in an RPG is so 2003, and CCP decided to just do away with it entirely (for the low low price of.....)

We had a terrible overhaul to sov mechanics. It changed nothing - same players now as before, just shuffled around the map a bit. If you use a jump bridge or ship with jump drive, you will smash your face against the screen and learn to curse a certain former Dev by name. It's considered pretty much a monumental failure, but CCP is committed to other projects now, so we're stuck with it.

Alphas. If you don't live in high sec or join a group like KarmaFleet or Horde then you will probably never even notice them. High sec is more crowded than ever, but if you aren't doing lower end content, they won't get in the way.
