I play eve with a laptop with a 1366x768 screen. And TBH, it's really a pain to get all those stuff on your screen at 100% UI scale. I managed to, but if I get 12 locks, I wont be able to see the space at all. And its also a pain trying to refit in space.

I have the Surface Book Performance Base... It has a i7 2.6GHz Processor and a dedicated; rather outdated; Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M graphics... It can run multiple Eve instances on 3000x2000 resolution.
The internal Intel Graphics is the HD Graphics 520 which is also capable of running Eve on a lower resolution (And fewer effects).

There is a huge difference between min and max graphic settings in EVE. EVE with minimum settings @ 720p runs on a cheap office laptop, EVE with max settings @ 1080p requires a expensive gaming laptop.

I wouldnt use a laptop for gaming TBH, desktop computers give you a lot more bang for the buck and you can use multiple monitors which is very useful when playing EVE.

Correct answer is desktop with at least 3 monitors. Anything else is going to be cramped as **** even if it technically can run EVE (potato mode is not very demanding except in fleet fights).

My 17" laptop is connected to a 24" monitor and can also support another external monitor, that's 3 screens, I can carry it around to work or friends house, and tbh when I priced up a desktop which needs an i7 it was coming in more expensive than my laptop cost me, desktops are great don't get me wrong but laptops are also damn good and people do have reasons to pick them over desktops

I played on a Lenovo W520 for years without so much as one hang/freeze or hiccup. FPS was not the best of course and fully cranked up graphics were totally out of the question.

At the very least get a laptop with a Nvidia 960M GPU instead of the 920M(X) and get one with an SSD since that 5400 RPM HDD will be slow AF.

Something like the Acer Aspire works well, As Yang said the 960M card.
If you really have money to burn you can go for the 10xx range of cards in some of the latest laptops also.

main problem you will have with a laptop is screen real estate, if you always dock to secondary monitors for fleet fights or anything that won't be an issue, but really you want at least two monitors if not three for 'hardcore' EVE gaming.
I say this as a one display laptop player atm. Don't even own a desktop any more.

If you must use a laptop, go for the one without Windows 10: Spyware Edition.

Get something with bigger screen (or external) and, although eve is not an FPS game, I can't imagine it being played with a touchpad (awkward). So get a mouse too.

Any of the today sold laptops will do since they all got an i7 with integrated graphics (so at least medium quality works). For max settings and 16x anti-aliasing look for a box with dedicated gpu (good luck finding one that's not "gaming edgy" and RGB-everywhere thou).

64bit win 7 and wait till the russians make it DX 12 compatible,
or 8.1 developers edition or whatever it's called.

OP skip first one without dedicated graphic it will be bare minimum to play second thing is those monitors resolutions are bad for any game look on the market for laptop w 1080p monitor.i wouldn't go below 17" (for gaming)but you might want it more compact than that due to reasons.

Agreed i have both and laptop i own for years now saved me and provided amazing gaming times when i was living outside my life traveling all over it is a gaming kind it have separate fans for GPU and CPU with separate cooling(copper) blocks.

It require like gaming desktop thermal paste change every year or so on both CPU / GPU due to more extreme heat generation (generally speaking),super mobile from being in a backpack to loading eve is matter of seconds(SSD) and with dual DP ports and HDMI port all 4k able it can have 3 external monitors 4 in total that is in my book media power house.

While my life changed enough for it to serve not much more than my Alpha clone driver my GF use it to rock resident evil on ultra and tittles like fallout 4 on near max settings for 1400USD 4 years ago it certainly payed it self of and still provide what it was built for.

No need to brake your budget over eve this is 3 generation old mid range GPU that floors eve at max settings without any issue and if you generally look for less than max setting you can go even cheaper as long as you don't go integrated generally you can get decent settings / framerates.

Correct answer it is and I will finally get to see the center of the EVE Online display back when I do have 3 monitors setup and running.
I do have 3 monitors now, but only 2 when I take out the laptop monitor which won't count when I run the 2 other monitors on a desktop.
I was also offered a video with 2 SVGA connectors.
I have a video card with 1 and only 1 SVGA connector at this time.
It also has a DVI connector but I don't know how that would work yet, or what it does require to work.

I also feel that I don't know enough about DVI (Digital Video Interface or something) even though I don't think my monitors are DVI compatible yet, and I don't know if they are compatible yet either.

I use 2 monitors now, and there are sometimes that I would need more space to run my information windows and organize them on screen without limiting my vision of the space around me.
Most of it fits on 2 screens however, and I could not run for instance, the Log and Messages windows as well as the Overview, People and Places, chat window and a few others.
Even with 2 windows, the Overview takes so much space that I have top place the Probe Scan result under it, with the icons on the left, so that I can see both information simultaneously without having to switch back and forth.

Yeah, my laptop runs a 19 inch monitor and the integrated laptop monitor which is some 14 inches or so.
Even though the sizes are different, it adjusts the EVE program to fit both screens.
I put the laptop on a pile of newspapers, and employment newspapers, so that it fits the center of the 19 inch monitor.
It is also not borderless, so the mouse cursor goes over the border everytime something is centered, like, for instance, the 'Esc' key Settings functions.

My settings are not 720p or 1080p.
The Display is set to Windowed mode as I find it lets me switch to the chrome browser page or other functions faster.
The Window Size is 2457x726 (in ultra wide mode).
The UI Scaling is 90%.
There are 2 more settings in this portion.

I also rather have a cheap system which works than to have an expensive system which doesn't work.
I'm sure that I am more scientifically inclined for that.

idk, I just got a masonry job offer asking me to lift 100 lbs buckets of cement up a scaffolding to make chimneys, even though I may not be able to do it , as I already tried that back in 1986 and I know how hard it is...

Both laptops the OP mentioned may run EVE , and we are also in the month of May.

Unfortunately, EVE is not designed to run on laptops (YET, and that is a big YET, or at least not officially so yet), and as such you have to do the testing yourself, or use some of the test results from others, hoping the quality control descriptions meet your understanding needs or threshold if any.

I can list my laptop , which laptop does run EVE and which laptop can also posts on the forums, however, it has a broken keyboard so I use a secondary keyboard and mouse for control.
I was told the mouse was having issue, and that it was a known bug, but that is not 50% of the problem tbh.
It is also not an i5 and runs on an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2 2.26GHz.
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (maximum capacity amount for that system I believe) (3.87 usable).
(It often runs at 96% 98% of physical memory capacity when it stalls and slow down to above annoying or comfortable speeds.)

The Display adapter information from the Device Manager is
- Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family

which can be interpreted as:
in the System devices
- Mobile Intel 4 Series Chipset Processor to DRAM Controller - 2A40

+
- Intel 82801 PCI Bridge - 2448
- Intel ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2940
- Intel ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 2 - 2942
- Intel ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 2944
- Intel ICH9M LPC Interface Controller - 2919

I do however have a new desktop which I want to have more security for before running it though.
The laptop has had more than its fair share of abuse.

EVE is designed to run on desktop PCs with desktop Personal Computer specifications including the video card system.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Updated April 14, 2017 10:51

Common

All hardware regardless of platform must support the following minimum requirements:

CPU that supports SSE2
GPU
with 256 MB VRAM or more
that supports Shader Model 3
that supports DirectX 9.0c
Drivers: DirectX 9.0c (included)
Audio
that is Direct Sound compatible and supports SSE
HD: 20 GB free space (or more)
Network: ADSL connection (or faster)
DVD-ROM: 2x-speed DVD reader (for boxed editions only)

The minimum screen resolution for the EVE Online Client is 1024x768. For optimum performance always use the latest available drivers for all hardware, including in particular audio and video hardware.

The expectation for the Minimum System Requirements is that all game features can be used on low-end hardware that still meets those requirements. All graphics settings are set to their lowest values. The resolution is set to 1024x768.

The expectation for the Recommended System Requirements is that there is a smooth and visually enjoyable experience across all game features. All graphics settings can be set to their highest values. The resolution should not exceed 1920x1200, though higher resolutions can be used with lower settings.

Please note that when in large-scale situations, such as fleet fights, it is encouraged to drop all graphics settings to their lowest value.

(+
I do have a 2 GB VRAM video card integrated in the laptop however, I can't find that exact data location yet as of my last verification.)

Windows

Minimum System Requirements:

OS: Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10
CPU: Intel Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz, AMD Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
Video: AMD Radeon 2600 XT or NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS

Recommended System Configuration:

OS: Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10
CPU: Intel i7 Series or AMD X4 @ 2.0 GHz or greater
RAM: 4 GB or higher
Video: AMD Radeon 6790 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or better with at least 1 GB VRAM

Mac

Minimum System Requirements:

OS: Mac OS X 10.9 / 10.10 / 10.11
CPU: Intel Dual Core @ 2.0 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 320m, Intel HD 3000

Recommended System Configuration:

OS: Mac OS X 10.9 / 10.10 / 10.11
CPU: Intel i7 Series @ 3.0 GHz or greater
RAM: 8 GB or higher
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 675mx or better with at least 1 GB VRAM

The main problem with the laptop is that there are no specific video cards that are compatible with the desktop cards.
Some laptop video cards do run EVE Online, while others may have problems or may not even run EVE at all.
The laptop processor rates are also different since the architecture is more miniature and costs a lot more to manufacture.
It was suggested that EVE Online did run on a BestBuy Insignia tablet although I have never verified this.

My current solution will be to run another system first before attempting any of those suggestions since I will need a backup system to be able to do any processing for work first.
The risk to have no operational system after the fix suggestion is too great to make taking the chance to find out worthwhile without another fully operational system first.
