"Explosion"-like effect to when an asteroid depletes

Since they are revamping explosions of ships in game, it would be nice if they add some sort of effect when an asteroid is depleted (blows up, crumbles apart, etc).

It doesn't have to be super fancy, nor different for each asteroid, but currently when an asteroid is depleted it just vanishes. Kind of immersion breaking.

This doesn't have to be a priority to get fixed/added, but I hope something happens eventually. I would be happy if they got this in before refinery structures come out. Big smile

I thought there was a very poor crumble effect? But it's hard to see from a distance, use free cam to be looking at an asteroid without being tethered to it to see.

Last time I was on a mining operation and mining a huge asteroid next to me, when I finished the cycle and depleted the ore, the asteroid just vanished. So maybe on smaller asteroids? I'll try again later, but if it isn't noticeable, I think it should be redone, like the ship explosions.

Sorry but this is like asking for empty bucket explosion effect when there is no water in it.

Well I am suggesting some effect when an asteroid gets depleted.

When a battleship size asteroid just vanishes into thin air space, I think that is a problem. Maybe if the asteroid starts shrinking till it vanishes, would it be more believable, but just disappearing without a trace is just weird.

A crumble away effect would be nice, or the asteroid stays there but the mineral/ore effects on the asteroid go away would be better than nothing.

I think this would be a good extra graphics option to add. It's not going to happen more than asteroids in a belt get depleted, and only in belts anyway. So absolute worst case scenario is all the asteroids in a belt crumbling at once if people synch it up for some reason.

Besides, it can be entirely clientside, and graphics cards are pretty good at crumbling things and throwing the chunks around. It won't sync between clients, but since the asteroid is already gone, that would hardly matter.

I do agree on that, because it is closer to reality. Asteroids are collection of chunks and dust that was forming for milion of years.
