Out of Pod Experience

I just almost had a VERY bad day, literally 10 seconds before posting this because I got up from my desk and sprinted across the office to get my hot pocket out of the microwave.

In the process of making the gradual left turn into the "break room" the "safety mat" on the floor (you know, those rubber things with yellow edges) slid a good 8-10 inches under my foot and I almost ate the doorway face first.


Anyone else have any co-workers doing dumb stuff like that? Anything resulting in more severe problems?

bahaha, its funny cuz i watched someone do that in highschool.

Blew the breaker and left half the class without power at their stations. (Small class)

Soldering irons can be dangerous as hell.

First mistake is eating hot pockets. That alone is a dumb thing to do.


Having worked in just about every kind of job from military to offices with suits and ties, I can write a book of "dumb things I have seen at work" and it would be around 500 pages.

Friend of mine discovered the joys of taking a golf cart down a flight of stairs... then I discovered it can also go up a flight of stairs

On a completely unrelated note the alignment was never quite right again...

My favorite is when we were pulling cables one time and the IT director was on a ladder feeding them into the ceiling track when he somehow tipped his ladder over. His Tarzan swing on the cable bundle (which survived) took out four ceiling tiles and ended with his head against a tiled wall. He walked it off, but it was funny as hell.

Then there was the time a guy turned his hand upside down with a hammer drill while putting a hole in a desk for cables. He wasn't bracing the drill while using a hole saw, which is a really bad idea if you can help it. The bit locked up in the cabinet somehow and the drill spun 180 degrees...with his hand still on it. He wore a brace for a week.

I used to have a picture on my phone of a pair of feet in a chair that was on top of a desk. Those feet belonged to the network admin at that same job. Someone robbed our ladder so he just used what we found in the room. There was no accident, but it was certainly a recipe for one.

I picked up a box that had a 2U server in it once a few years ago, only thing is, the server fell through the box and broke two of my toes. That was sore as hell. I don't think i've swore as much, or as loud in front of a group of people in years

Where did the tractor driver end up ?

Most stupid **** at work, or at least the funniest incidents tend to involve the forklifts. One guy once managed to poke a hole through the wall (about 30-40cm of concrete) when he tried to pick up a sheet of steel from a stack just outside the building. We were impressed, not thinking it could done but he sure showed us.


Another guy was driving through the main door once, but apparently he didn't bother opening it first...

That same guy once jammed a roll of electrical tape into one of the sockets on the torch of one of the lasers, rather than the ring that's supposed to go there. Keep in mind that this is a big-ass machine that cuts half-inch steel like butter, so imagine what happened to the tape... Vaporised, gumming up the optics, that's what.
Ok, so the tape roll and ring were about the same size, so it did fit into the socket, with a bit of force anyway. How the hell he managed to fasten the screw to hold it in place is anybody's guess though...
He doesn't work with us any more...

People get "random accidents" all the time. It happens

My mate went to take a photo of something he found cool and got hit by schrapnel from a RPG hit on his tank. Stupid **** but he did get s good photo.
