I see people selling bookmarks of pirate gate locations. After ratting they seem to be selling the location.

Why? What are people buying? Where do these gates lead to?

Are you talking about escalations? If so, people buy them for the escalation site (which can drop very good loots).

People are selling DED site locations. Those are either found by explorers or ratters. If they get a harder one that they can't run themeselves, they find someone who can, so they both profit.

Think it would be rude to link the Goonwiki article that people here can't access, so I'll trust your searching skills.

Not that there is too much that can be said of the topic.

asking here probably isn't that useful as goons have their own way of dealing with it in alliance.

I believe havens can give the location to a 10/10 complex so think of x-type loot and bhaalgorn bpcs, as well as overseer personal effects. I'm not sure what the other sites can lead to but again I'm guessing someone in goons knows.

What do you actually need to bookmark?

Is bookmarking the gate enough, or does the gate lead to something else once all of the pirates have been cleared out of the area?

I am not 100% sure what you are asking about. From the response of the other players in this thread it sounds like you are talking about DED sites that you either get as an escalation or through exploration. The ones that you can find through exploration anyone can find. The ones that you get as an escalation only the player that received the escalation notice knows where the site is.

So if we are talking about escalation then there are times where someone will get an escalation notice and not want to run the site. In that case they may choose to sell the site to another player who is willing to run it. The gate in question is just an acceleration gate just like the ones that you see in missions. The acceleration gate just launchers you into a deadspace pocket which again is just like in missions. These sites often have multiple "rooms" which once again is just like a mission.

Where these sites differ from missions is that they are typically more difficult and have much better loot. The X-type, A-type, etc... deadspace modules that you can see in the market browser or in the variants tab of some modules comes from these sites. I've had one escalation drop over a Billion isk in loot.

You bookmark the initial gate, so that other people can warp to the site.

It's pointless to bookmark anywhere past the initial gate, because all warp attempts to destinations that are inside get re-routed to the initial gate.

So in null sec typically limiting exposure time is very key to completing DED site. While the site will despawn after you complete the site and warp away the wrecks will not.

What I do when running them is to bookmark one of the wrecks in each room that seems to be in the middle of all of the wrecks. As I run the site I loot overseers and faction NPCs but leave all the normal wrecks. Then when the site is done I dock up my BS and go back in something much cheaper and drop MTUs and then salvage wrecks. You can quickly and easily warp directly from one pile of wrecks to the next.
