Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm trying to get back into Eve after a long hiatus. My question is if I'm looking to get into solo pvp, and my character was made in 2007, will people avoid fights with me or will I only fight vets because of my character age? I have about 20m skill points atm. It's not that I'm only looking to fight bad players but I'm still pretty bad myself and feel like I'm just starting out again.

you don't have to worry: a lot has changed.
nowdays SADLY we have skill injectors etc....

there are characters created less than 1 week ago that have more SP than you....
there are also a couple of maxed out characters around.... (all lvl 5 skills, every skill)

sad times... really sad times.

and for what solo PVP is concerned it's not much your character date or birth
but your engagebility profile (dunno the exact words): aka what you are flying etc
besides it depends where you are gonna do it:
- lowsec (specially FW) full of small stuff up to cruisers
- null sec all the rest.

my suggestion is to check out FW corps.
get in touch with people, don't play alone even if you SOLO pvp
start as always with cheap ships until you get back the knowledge of how things work

good luck out there
and welcome back

Yes, yes...you used to have to train uphill both ways in the snow.

It's a maxim in the military that the guy who's been in service a week longer than you will lament how easy the new breed has it and how the organization is going to crap. That's far sadder in my opinion.

To the OP's question, don't worry about it. Rarely do you put any stock in a character's age. Even "back when it was hard" before skill injectors, people commonly took long breaks.

I was in a similar boat... but despite an older creation date, the fact I was flying T1 frigates in FW doesn't seem to scare anyone off. If anything ship type makes a bigger difference. Others in T1 ships are more likely to run if you are using a pirate faction or Navy ship for example.

Not everyone of course. I suicide my tristans against all sorts of faction ships... simply because I might get lucky and my loss is inconsequential.

you know how it works in the military right?
gerarchy is there for a reason ehhehehehehe

selling skill injectors is a way to make more money from ccp.
it's a way to **** old characters.
it's a way to go and meet the "i have no patience" kind of players. Aka TRASH players.

keep it up Cool

Of course skill injectors are a way for CCP to make money. Nothing wrong with that. They're running a business.

Of course they're a way to **** old players. Nothing wrong with that either for 3 reasons:

1. In a game that's been around this long, in which skill is strictly dependent on time in the game, it's a way to level the playing field so that new players aren't automatically hopelessly outclassed.

2. CCP doesn't make money off of old players. I've only been playing about a year and I doubt CCP will ever get another dime from me because I can earn enough isk in-game to plex my account or do anything else I want to do. They make their money from new and intermediate players. Old players are good content creators but they don't directly contribute money to CCP.

3. Any money CCP DOES get through old players is probably from skill injectors, so it's the only way to monetize older players.

I know you old farts are hard-wired to hate these new fangled inventions, but you can either adapt or go sit in your rocking chair and tell us all about the good ole days. Either way, the world is moving on with or without you.

1 - if you think that new players are hopeless... then you suck at eve. learn to play. you don't need to level the game. it will automatically do it.

2- CCP makes tons of money from old players: they simply plex to buy ships to welp and don't rat/farm anymore cuz they already did it and don't wanna bother to do it again.

3- lel you'll see with your eyes when only casual players will play eve. and that will be the end Cool

nowdays casual players are the cancer. open your eyes
i don't even wanna spend time to convince you cuz obviously you are in said category lel

You don't have to try and convince me. We can simply agree to disagree. Just don't act like an old curmudgeon while telling the kids to get off your grass. The world moves on whether you like it or not.

Skill injectors were my SOLE reason for coming back to Eve. Yes I am impatient and don't like waiting 48 days for a skill to train, but more importantly, I don't want to be at a MASSIVE disadvantage to players who've been here longer, with no way for me to catch up to them (ever).

I'm probably not the only one.

More players = more content = better Eve.
