0.5 space is fitting. Minmatar space is a bad neighborhood. It's full of heretical runaway slaves.
So roll up your cargohold doors and lock your pod and burn out of there as fast as you can and come on down to a bigger better hub like amarr.
We understand important things like order, justice, and personal hygiene.

Wrong. CCP decided which systems are tradehubs by disallowing citadels in them. Hek is allowed citadels so obviously it was deemed not a hub by CCP.

Wrong, we decided the tradehub positions by seeding them. When CCP many years later, introduced citadels they made some restrictions in some system, to avoid getting 300+ citadels in Jita for example. But a tradehub is no where defined by allowance of citadels, but by tradevolume by which Hek is a tradehub.

This.

Hek has the fifth highest number of sell orders, close to that of Rens, and half that of dodixie. Buy orders are the same.

What do you think? Should it go closer to 0.9, like the other hubs?

1) CCP didn't make the trade hubs. We did.
2) CCP should not change the sec status.

If you want a 0.9 then find one and dedicate your time to making it the new Minmatar trade hub.

Interesting idea, always wondered how much effort that would be and if it could be done at all.

1) You would need to seed all the basic stuff. Not an easy task, for sure. There are more than 6.000 items actively traded in the region during the last month. Ok, a lot of them don't need to be seeded, like NPC trade goods, Blueprints, low volume stuff and so on. But still an awful lot of items

2) A really good Trade Hub needs competitive prices on the buying side as well, to allow mission runners, explorers, FW warriors and all the rest to quickly dump their stuff (I doubt that Hek is really competitve in that, but ok)

3) As with real estate: The location is key. As was mentioned before, Hek is close to the mission runner hotspot for Sisters of Eve and some others. Hek is directly on the shortest path between Heimatar and Jita and close to Sinq Laison. Hek is only two jumps from FW lowsec. Being on a short path to other tradehubs is important for inter-regional traders.

4) The station needs a factory and reprocessing with 50% (a lot of low-value items are only bought to reprocess)

5) As a bonus: It should be easy to gain standing with the owning corp (Hek is the worst of all the tradehubs in this regard)

Considering all this, let's look on possible alternatives:

Uttindar and Bei, but both of them also have low security status and no factory, so nothing to win here.

Olbra could work, but it's already 4 jumps from FW lowsec and not really well connected to most other constellations of Metropolis.

Eram looks nice on the first glance, but it's already far from FW zone and most popular mission runner systems. On the plus side: It's closer to Nullsec regions Geminate and Great Wildlands. But not much trade to expect from there I guess.

Illuin and Hjortur are well connected to other parts of Metropolis but very far away from FW zone and mission runners.

No, I think Hek is already the best choice for Metropolis.
