Liven up in-game chat

Hi.

The in-game chat feels dead at times. And the way it works where each system has its own chat makes it impossible to chat in the first place if you jump around systems alot. And i think most people do. Either when missioning, or whatever the fack.

So i have a suggestion for how in-game chat can liven up a little. You replace the local chat with a regional chat. This way the chat is persistent between jumps, unless you switch region. Its a significant improvement over the chat we have today, which seems to be a remnant from the early ages. It could do with an overhaul.

Im not sure what the general sentiment is regarding Removing local, but i gather its not the first time it has been proposed. The pros of removing local is that it can no longer be used as a intel gathering tool. It would be interesting to see how the game changes because of this. There may be a need to overhaul directional scanners to enable some form of convenient yet very basic intel gathering.. Well thats all for now. Thank for you reading.

And because people didn't like your idea when you posted it in "Player Features and Ideas Discussion" you repost it in "General Discussion"? Great!

The game chat is fine, you just have to join the right channels and not try to talk to strangers that happen to pass the same system. Do you try to talk to strangers on the road too? Most cooperation chats are very lively, team up! Local chat in EVE is more about trade hub spam, intel and security than about actual chatting anyway. And no, I don't see a point that this has to be changed.

Imo this idea concerns general discussion as well since its related to the in-game chat and how dead it feels at times. I will also post on reddit soon i think.

Umm... There are separate chats for Constellation and Region.

I have yet to see anyone use them. Not that I have screen real-estate to keep an eye on such useless stuff.

But I have a counter-proposal! Use the forums. That way your wisdom will remain accessable for eternity.

...

We already have regional chat. If you want to make a suggestion, suggest to show names at all times like local and not hide them. So people might actually open it up to talk in it.
Its useless as is and just appears empty 99% of the time.

The names are hidden unless you post in them, so they always appear empty in the room list and therefore no one bothers to enter them anyway. It's a vicious circle.

Read the Rules of Conduct.
No matter how many parts of the game you think your ideas concern you gotta post them only once.

And you should check if there are similar threads already to keep the forum readable.

And yes, please go to reddit, I am sure they wil absolute LOVE your idea and you are the first one to come up with it ever. [ EDIT: ROFL, that wasn't even me posting the beaten dead horse...)

People seem open to the idea. So if this really is beating a dead horse, it says more about CCP not working with it more than the idea being bad. Basically the guy posting the deadhorse beat thing is just noise.

Sometimes I make a call on local, that's how I found my current corp, said there was a mining chance in mission space.

I don't use local much I'm either in a much more active chat or fleet or corp chat.

Plus, who what's to see all the spam from the trade hubs 10 systems out? Galactic SPAM

Yes, local has less fans over there. Guess I misjudged them.

As a courtesy to other forum users, please search to see if there is a thread already open on the topic you wish to discuss. If so, please place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forums needlessly, causing good feedback and ideas to be lost. Please keep discussions regarding a topic to a single thread.

As you have this thread up already in the correct forum. I will close this one.
