I will start by telling you what has happened.

I started playing Eve only this week with a new Alpha clone. I have been taking things very slowly while trying to get to grips with the complex nature of the game. Now I did the first set of training mission and was the directed by the ships AI to find the Career Agents and to complete the missions they have to offer as a way to learn more aspects of the game.

Well as I am a Caldari Alpha I made my way to Akiainavas III and found the Agents. This was yesterday. Thinking I had time to make a start on the Industrial Agents missions as I want to be a miner in game I started his first mission. Now I had just started on it when a rl emergancy came up which needed to be sorted and took several hours to sort. So I had to cancel the mission as I knew I would not finish it in the alloted time, thinking I could just restart the mission again when I knew I would have the time to finish it.

Now I logged in today and the first thing I wanted to do was to restart the Industrial Agents mission only to find that he will not give any missions.

Have I blown any chance of doing his missions by cancelling the first mission yesterday? If so how can I learn about the aspects of mining and processing without his missions, plus the reward he gives would be a help towards my progression.

The way the missions work mean that if a mission is cancelled you're locked out of that agent.

However you can have this reset by one of eve's helpful GMs

In game hit f12, and click the button for the help centre.

Under game play support, game play, agent mission in progress, fill in the details and a GM will reset the agent for you.

Submit a support ticket, explain what happened and ask them to reset the mission. https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us

You do not need to cancel a mission - you have at least a week to complete them. Most offer a bonus if completed quickly but you don't fail if it takes longer.

Pop in a support ticket asking for the mission to be reset. Usually the GMs do this very quickly.

In the meantime, try out the Business Career agent, which will give a couple of mining missions and a Venture mining frigate, as I recall. It's well worth doing all the Career Agents while you're there, since you get free ships and a decent amount of starting isk. Even as a miner, you ought to understand some of the combat mechanics Since you'll be on the wrong end of them at some point, probably soon) and if you branch out into the lucrative field of gas mining, scanning will be a useful skill with which to be familiar.

If an emergency comes up again, best not to quit the mission. You might lose the time limited bonus payment, but these are usually quite long periods of time for the starting missions. If you are at the mission description screen, you can choose Delay without consequence rather than quit or close.

Hello and welcome to Eve.

If for some reason the Support Ticket doesn't get that Career Agent reset, you can always visit another one in a different location. There are 3 sets of 5 Career Agents for each of the 4 main Factions. That's 15 Career Agents per Faction. You can complete them all if you want but it's not required. Completing one set of 5 Career Agents will give a good jumpstart into the game.

After completing those, I suggest doing the level 1 Sisters Of Eve Epic Arc which is offered by Sister Alitura in the Sisters of EVE Bureau station at Arnon IX - Moon 3. That arc will provide more experience at piloting your ship and gain some ISK as well as allowing time to decide which Career path to follow in Eve.

Good luck to you.

Whilst this is good advice usually, I'm interested to know if it is useful for Alpha clones. Last year, for RP reasons, I took an Minmatar alt through the Amarr Career agents, and the free ships issued from the missions were Amarr ships. I'm guessing that if this is still the case, an Alpha player would not be able to fly the mission given ships because of racial restrictions.

Has anyone tried this with an Alpha?

Thanks once again everyone for the good advice and pointers on what to do next. Support did indeed reset that agent for me and I am now on the 3rd mission in the line.
