edit: Just wanted to update that a GM kindly helped out and reset the career npc's for me. So thanks for the suggestions!

As for the glitched opportunity. I rolled a second character to check if things were unglitched there and to my surprise the opportunity system was non-existent and the new introduction mission line was much better and immersive. I know eve isn't like that but it was a cool opener.

Tried searching for an answer to this but couldn't find anything. I recently started playing again on an old account that's now in alpha state and to get back into the flow I followed the 'opportunities'. Doing so I kind of fell into a problem as one of the missions had the npc kill me in my Vexor(guessing the game expected me to be in a starting ship) and I was supposed to return to a station and activate the free replacement. I was kind of pissed for a moment and mostly confused but I got over it and continued to the nearest station. Here's where I got a bit annoyed, upon entering the station and activating the ship the opportunity failed to complete and now I'm stuck with an uncompleted opportunity.

I'm assuming something didn't trigger as I was using the wrong ship maybe or I previously bought ships when I played years ago?

I also ran into another issue where the career npc's refuse to talk to me so I'm unable to complete that opportunity too. I was told I can go to other race's starting systems and do them there but it's still a bit of an oversight and confusing.

There are 3 sets of 5 Career Agents for each of the 4 main Factions. That's 15 Career Agents per Faction. You can complete them all if you want but it's not required. Completing one set of 5 Career Agents will give a good jumpstart into the game.

Check your Mission Journal and see if the mission briefing shows a green checkmark showing completion of all mission objectives. If not the mission will reset at Downtime.

If it does show all mission objectives are completed and you still can't access the Agent, definitely submit a Support Ticket :
Select type = Game Play Support
Category = Game Play = Agent Mission In Progress
or
Category = Stuck = Stuck Characters

Provide a brief explanation of the issue and politely request a mission reset. CCP usually answers that type of Support Ticket rather quickly.

Thanks for the replies. To be more accurate it was definitely an opportunity that activated. I was near a gate and an ai enemy spawned next to me which made the opportunity display and tell me to scan it and make it my target. I did so and the enemy was either really overpowered or my ship was set wrong and I died in about 5 seconds. Faster than I could try and jump out of the gate. I think this was in an 0.8 system.

After that I was left in my pod and the opportunity updated to tell me to go to the nearest station, I followed along with it and went to the nearest station(which I had not docked at before). Inside was the replacement craft which I then activated but the opportunity didn't update to reflect this so it's kind of stuck.

The career npc's, I'm pretty sure I did every quest when I originally made the account in 2012. I'm away at the moment but I'm pretty sure in my quest log the only ones listed were 5 story quests with aurora(?). I'd have to look to be certain.

The opportunity-system has been removed from the game. CCP redid the tutorial for new characters. An old character may have some leftovers of the opportunities showing up, but they might not work correctly due to that.
