What do suicide gankers consider a "worthy target?"

if I remember correctly, a t2 fit gank catalyst is about 10 mil, and a gank tornado is about 50 mil. if you cargo value is more than 2x that, than you are a worthy target. of course, you have to figure out if the ganker has enough time to kill you before concord arrives. didnt look into catalyst ganking, as it was never my problem, but for hauling, your most probably enemy is a tornado. they have alpha around 10-11k and dont have time for another salvo before concord comes. if your ehp is more than that, you are mostly fine.

The ganker is terribly bored and you are the only target available.

It happens, I saw how CODE killed a 20m isk/worth ship (only ammo in cargo) on the gate just because that ship stood there afk and they had no other target to kill. They used 5 catalysts for that.

Also, the mining barge ganks aren't for profit either. They don't collect the loot from them and they don't sell them either.

they use a multiple-alt tactic now, t1 catalyst/thrasher fits are worth 2mil and in bigger number they are more deadly than one t2 catalyst, same with the purifiers they use to kill freighters, all t1, this reduces their ganking cost especially if they are able to collect the loot that drops from their own ship (which they are)

CODE. is special, they go for tears and salt but not so much for ISK. The typical non-CODE. ganker does it more for the profit and only now and then for the lulz as far as I can tell. But perhaps that is a question where you haul too, I avoid certain systems like the plague.

could be, but I doubt that that many gankers have subscribed multiple accounts for that.
anyway, I use mwd/cloak and intasdocks and -undocks when I fell I could be ganked.

real gankers don't care about the value of the target

you're 'just' a target

These are the best answers you will ever receive.
My hauling character has been ganked in an empty Iteron, yet on other occasions he has flown past gank squads while carrying more than 2 billion in cargo.

What you have read above is good general advice to follow but gankers are a tricky lot and there is no way to actually predict which ship, or which cargo will become a target.

If you plan on hauling for ISK I suggest you study how expensive shipments like diamonds and even the US Mint actually handle the situation there is much there that can be applied to EvE to help keep your losses to a minimum.
