The knowledge you need to solo is not to be underestimated. But it's very doable. Other people, other problems Smile

This is such complete rubbish i'm half wondering if you're trolling. If you're not trolling, might i point out once again what a total load of old b*llocks you're spewing. Just because you personally aren't skilled enough to solo with an Alpha Clone doesn't mean other people will be similarly stunted.

Solo is just hard mode, not impossible. With education it doesn't take much in the way of SP skills.

I never troll in this forum section. I very much doubt the OP will enjoy solo pirating as an alpha clone even if he does manage to kill some things. I would love to see him prove me wrong, however.

Kinda dont like how everyone is saying find players to team up with, in general id prefer to be solo pirating but from all the feedback so far it seems like the only way people play this game is by teaming up with each other and ganking single targets which I guess has some fun to it but doesnt give the satisfaction of raiding alone kinda how a player would KS in league of legends.

Teaming in general just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, like if im gonna raid id prefer to do it alone and with my own ships firepower, so if i do choose to keep playing as a f2p alpha clone pirate will my time as one be wasted? Or should i look for another open pk game?

Well, im not the best solo PvPer at all, but I do it for the fun! Pirate

Before all of this F2P stuff I used to sub and solo pvp with frigates and destroyers, its fun! Im not the most social person, so I like many solo activities (or with a friend or two), and when I want group things, there are NPSI groups like spectre fleet that you can join at any time for larger fleets!

I dont have much time with college, so Im only going to sub in the summer, and right now Im just on a F2P account, but I can still have just the same fun as before! The only things that were different for me is that I can only use my race's ships (My algossss :'c ) [not much of a worry, each race has a few different types of good pvp ships!] and the fact that some of my equipement is now a little weaker (not too bad, you can use some T2 stuff, the rest just meta 4 it) so I just have to pick my fights better, something that you will get better at.

So yeah, go fit some cheap frigates and go out there! when you start getting some kills (It was awhile before mine, be patient and its rewarding!) try a destroyer! usually cruisers are useless in most solo stuff that we would be doing. But most importantly have fun doing it!.

P.S. You mentioned before how you would have room to fit guns with mining equipment, it doenst work like other mmo's where you have one character, you will have tens or even hundreds of ships, when you put one together, give it a single purpose and focus on that.

"you might not enjoy it but yes it's well possible" is a very different reply from "Solo / Alpha / Successful Pirate, choose two"..

I suck at PvP... but most of what I do is solo due to not taking part in comms (which is kind of required for most group actions).

I'm not looking to pirate for profit though... I engage in PvP mostly in FW plexes (which are limited by ship size) so I can find relatively equal fights.

With that methodology you can absolutely find enjoyable fights. You don't even need to be in Faction Warfare... just in FW space looking for occupied novice plexes (if in a frigate). Joining FW might be a good option as you can support your PvP habit through running plexes and FW missions to buy new ships.

As an alpha, you'll have to recognize that you will often be at a disadvantage due to lack of T2 weapons. You can win some... but if all else is equal but the other guy has T2 stuff and Omega level skills... well you better have some excellent tactics to cover that.

If you're just looking to gank miners... I hear a T1 catalyst does a good job.

I dont plan on doing any trading/merching boring spreadsheet garbage, all I want to do is attack other players and plunder their loot and fittings. Will I be able to do that as a purely [F2P] Alpha Clone character?

I don't know.

Can you?

OK so many people already said it but I will reiterate two EXTREMELY important facts here.

First. you CAN solo play the game. You can utterly forget about communicating with other players, learning from them in good or bad way, having fun on comms together, you can be a lone wolf absolutely without any problems. This also means that at the beginning you will fail A LOT, simply because, as was pointed out, you don't quite know how the mechanics of different security systems work, how fast the players would response to your threat or which ships are defenseless. All these things can be learned and there is a lot of solo players who learned them on their own.

The reason why majority of people would try to push newbies into corporations is that newbies coming from other games are simply not used to the fact that corporations CAN BE actually useful.

However, all of this is valid ONLY if you want to play EVE. It doesn't look like you want to play EVE, it seems that you want to play League of Legends in EVE environment, which absolutely doesn't make sense. It's the same thing as if you want to play League of Legends in Solitaire or Minesweeper. It doesn't make sense.

So, to sum it up: you can indeed be f2p pirate/ganker in high/low/null, providing you understand you're playing EVE Online, a game that is completely different from what you've played so far. If you insist on playing LoL in space, you will fail no matter what you want to do, no matter if you're alone or in a corp. And if you think you will PWN ZOMGLOLOLZ without any research whatsoever then you're also wrong.

Hope that helps :)

What about frigates and mining vessels, looting ships, etc how I was thinking was that since you need to fit your ship with mining equipment/ exploration stuff that leaves little room for weapons, arent those the easier targets to kill solo?

Kinda like in AC4: Black Flag, the bigger ships always had the better goods on it but since it needed all the room to carry those goods they had little to no firepower to defend themselves.

Do yourself a favor and don't think of eve in terms of other games, comparisons fail miserably.

Solo in eve will leave you disappointed; find and join a corp.

solo is some of the best content in eve, That said it requires good piloting and knowledge of most mechanics so it can be rather intensive to get into.

I'm not sure what other frigs work well with alpha but I would assume most of the popular ones would, also you have access to destroyers and cruisers.

You're under much more pressure as an alpha to pick your fights carefully and rely more on luck than an omega. If the omega is also a PvPer it's pretty much a given that they'll have some T2 weapons and tank, and higher levels of at least the core skills and skills that alphas can't access. That much is obvious.

But there's still a rock-paper-scissors aspect to any battle that could turn the tide in favor of a player who on paper would be outmatched. Like for instance:
- alpha brawler ship scrams and webs down an omega with rails/arty/beams
- alpha kiter that can't be caught by omega brawler
- alpha RLML cruiser catches omega T2-fit frigate/destroyer

And then there's just pilot skill, and also the fact that alpha an omega status doesn't matter much if the omega just recently subscribed. An alpha with PvP experience will always have at least that advantage over an inexperienced pilot caught in a PvP situation.

That last point is important. Go out there and shoot stuff. Everyone dies plenty unless from day one they're flying in huge fleets, or if their only experience is small gangs that prey on single FW frigs or something. Don't take me to mean I don't approve of those methods, but for the rest of the PvP community there's gonna be some exploding going on along the way toward the victories yet to come.
