I didn't think it was possible but the forums have struck an all new low recently. I guess we can thank F2P.

The test server is closer to what he's describing. It is literally EvE without other players.
The two main differences would be the periodic server mirroring, and the seeded market.
Without the seeded market, you'd have to build everything from scratch. Starting with a noob ship and civilian mining laser.
And having to save up isk to buy skills and blueprint originals (no bpcs for you, bud) using the civilian gatling laser on your impairor to collect bounty from highsec rats.

That would make for a very, very challenging and tedious grind of a game. Some people would enjoy that, I guess. I wonder if enjoy is really the right word.
Gambling addiction.
Grinding addiction.

Eve just doesn't work as a single player game. It needs blobs, emergent gameplay, narrative-building player interaction, and the economy is wholly dependent on the MM part of MMORPG.
There are only so many ways you can say "Just won't work," but it can't be overstated.

An offline version of EVE would be you flying around a gigantic empty universe with no economy or market. It's the players that make EVE what it is. Offline EVE just simply wouldn't work.

Even if you are talking about having an EVE clone with AI and scripted events it'd still be pointless. What would be the point? It's the human interactions that make EVE great, without them the game would be terrible all the time.

I take great offense at the notion that people over 40 have nothing better to do with their lives. I'm 58, and while it's true, I still take great offense at it.

Hello OP. Why not just get a mining permit? I offered them to your corp multiple times, they are only 10mil ISK and valid for a full year. Sounds to me a bit like you are looking for a fight.

I beleive I was that in another game that had Open PvP. it was Free to Play and they had Open PvP, and trading, so they came up with an item that they sold through the store.

And it made one invulnerable to any attack for 24 hours. And people used that for the long Trading runs. Everyone was buying them. It kinda affected the Player Killer community in that game "Pirates" but enhanced the PvP in the game, the majority of people were happy and the company was making good money frorm these items too...

Seriously, I have to ask:
a) does that game have a name?
b) what happened to it?
c) why are you not playing that game if it is free of "Player Killers" now and instead try to play EVE which you seam to have a problem with

If they would introduce an item like that into EVE, yes it would have a significant impact on the piracy. It would have an even bigger impact on the hauler business. What it will not create is more profit. It will turn multiple activities where you can outsmart your competition by avoiding pirates or organizing into a AFK only activity. It seams that is what you really want.

The idea of such an item is so completely horrible and blatantly pay2win that no one should ever play a game which introduces such a completely idiotic concept.

Apart from that, the common carebear once again forgets that this item will be available for the non-carebears as well and it will be turned into a weapon so horrible you will be immediately back on the forums and cry some more about how people screw you over. And believe me there would be ways to turn this into a horrible weapon...

once again, Hello Kitty Online is that way Arrow

By the way, just wanted to say I like the OP's idea, especially since I'm a PvE player.

Being an explorer / mission runner I choose to play solo against NPC's. I enjoy it and don't really need to engage with other players. Now don't get me wrong, I like the aspect of having other players online with me in the Eve universe. However I definitely don't need some wanna be PvP player come in and steal my loot in an attempt to get me to attack him. Also don't need some wanna be PvP player try to suicide gank me while I'm slowboating my way to the gate during a multiple jump route.

Despite those annoying nuisances I play this game for 2 reasons,

1 - I haven't found another space game that's comparable to Eve
2 - I haven't bothered looking for a space game that's comparable to Eve

I would only approve of Eve Offline, if CCP were to ever go bankrupt. And then only for people to be able to host their own servers with very limited groups of players, possibly with seeded stuff.

Im sure its been said before but being the noob i am i dont know how to check but... who here would like to play eve... just for the fun of it? without the treat of getting ganked by a bunch of 40 year olds with nothing better to do with their lives? yes i know its what makes eve eve and eve is fun.... but it is slightly annoying and frustrating at times to. i mean think about it.... to play eve offline, solo, only you in the universe (and NPCs of course) just for fun. nothing is tied to the online version in terms of characters or ships or ISK. they could sell it for say, between $20 to $50 (AU). They get even richer (which they so like) and we, get to just mess about without fear of getting ganked! Yes i know it would not be for everyone... but its still a nifty idea dont you think? P.S any 'oh but it wouldn't be eve' comments are just going to get ignored by me because as iv said YES! i know it wouldn't be eve eve! but that is not the point of this discussion!

Stange, someone invited me a few months ago for training, but I couldn't join. I was pretty sure it was 'cause of the alpha state. Maybe I missed something.

So Tranquility keeps calling you. Good thing, thought we lost you forever already. Keep up, being presistent and inquisitive pays around here.

Lucky for me, I don't need to consider your tempting request, as I'm an injector-junkie, so I spend all my ISK on drugs before a whole billion could pile up. Smile

1 it gets re set every few months so yeah. 2 its not a one time payment or free just for fun because it gets reset every so often for full solo player and all ships... you still need an omega account to get all that stuff. which, is a huge waste of money in my opinion.

Basically the answer is what Brenton Darnbrough posted above.

Just to clarify, I didn't find out about the test server Singularity until after I had been playing on Tranquility for a couple of years. At that time I had started working on the Faction Standing Repair Plan, aka 'The Plan', which I contributed to the Eve Community and needed to show players my in-game progress. I also became active in creating and editing pages for Evelopedia and Eve Survival.

Main point is since Singularity is a mirror of Tranquility and gets reset every 3 months or sooner, all character progress would be erased. Obviously players need to first develop their characters in Tranquility and then use Singularity to test anything of question. And as I said earlier in this thread, the test server is great for gathering info to create PvE walkthrough guides.

You can set the skills on TQ and then play on the test server in complete isolation. Or what progress did you mean? Also yes, EVE is a subscription based game. They continually develop it and add stuff, that is what we pay for. You get a free slice of the content and if you just want "to have a good time" you can do that as an alpha perfectly well.
