Is playing as an alpha really viable?

One of the reasons many people struggle with EVE is people treat Assets like other games where you premium fit a ship with maybe a back up, maybe not. Where in EVE you pretty much asset build with full loss recovery perhaps hundreds of times.

Alpha actually makes EVE easier as playing within your means is forced on to you. You could afford to lose 20 Moa to the cost of one well fit Eagle. Part of the reason Sov is one big bada-boom followed by evac is people don't fly and stockpile long term asset recovery. You clone, your skills clone with you, your assets don't.

On the other side of the coin, there is the lesson of futility. You will never lay claim to anything of value in EVE as an Alpha clone. That could be said about a lot of Omega as well though. As such you are a weapon of destruction, not a tool of building. All you can do is take from others through infinite aggression. Some might see that as just damn fun.

The one thing that makes Alpha better is that you are never the primary in medium to large fleet battles.
