Question about Pi production

Due to skills and other things i am now struggling to keep my factorys running some of them in my chain are waiting for resources, is there away to pause production of 1 item while supplies are replenished other than using the decommission button?

Reroute stuff to a storage instead of factory?

Extractors and factories should always route to and from storage facilities. So, for example, I do R0 to P2 production. My extractors route the R0 to a storage facility, which then sends it to a basic factory for P1 production, which sends it back to the storage facility, and then on to the advanced factory for P2 production, which then routes it to a launchpad for final storage.

That way, I don't have to keep my extractors perfectly balanced. When the storage facility attached to my largest producing extractor gets to be about half full with surplus resources, I simply don't restart that extractor for a couple of days until the surplus is eliminated. That way, it's easy to monitor and control and you don't lose any production from your factories.

My interpretation of your question is that your factories are idle because you can't harvest enough to keep them busy - this is a normal fact of life, particularly if you're making something complex like P4. Your factories will pause all by themselves when they run out of material and it won't hurt them to sit idle for a while. I have given up trying to balance my harvest - if I am short a commodity, I buy it and import it to my factory planet. If I have surplus - I export and sell it.

If you are doing P2 production on 1 planet, just reduce the number of heads on the surplus extractor and increase them on the other until you find a balance.

Thanks you spottted my dilema and problem, i am not harvesting enough now. when i 1st started i had far to much produce now i have to little.

all my produce is routed correctly via storage facilities.

You may also need to shift the ECU/heads around to find higher extraction areas as well. I've noticed that after a week or two, I start losing quantity a bit, and need to shift heads around. Once a month I shift the ECU entirely, along with the other facilities if i have to go to the other side of the planet as an example.
