Does Scan deviation effect initial signiture position?

Yeah, so, does scan deviation affect the initial placement of unscanned signatures making them more accurate to start off or does it only make a difference when you use probes?

Great question, gonna tag this because I'd like to know as well.

Also curious if certain levels of Astrometric Acquisition are basically worthless due to server tick rounding.

My impression over time has been that the initial positions are correct and deviation only comes into play when you start to scan. I have no energy to verify this, though the methodology is pretty clear -- midwarp bookmarks until you're nearly on top of the position of the unscanned sig and then drop probes and see how close you were. Sounds like a pita but it would be interesting.

boom?

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Scanning

in particular
Quote:
Max Deviation = (Scan Range/Base Scan Range) × Base Maximum Deviation × (1 − Pinpointing Skill/10)

Quote:
The deviation is the distance between the scan result shown on the map and the actual location of your target.

i don't know how to read!
but i may guess that scan deviation affect the probes, aka when you scan the signature with them
NOT the initial signature position showed on map

Question  Question  (again) Question

Deviation is a value that shows how far from initial scan result will be.

The better the skills the smaller deviation will be.

Deviation is fixed by scan range, skill level and scan strenght.

It's how it suppose to be because I don't get the formula from uniwiki.

It's where the result be after the scanning not before.

The best way to check this would be to go to the same system with two characters (one highly skilled and the other not) and compare their probe maps.

I think it dose, my first result isn't in the same place as the final result(still at alpha skills at the moment.

The question I'm asking is, does it matter?
The initial map is not useful at all for positioning and you always run your probes when scanning so at the end of the day, what difference does it make other than a passing curiosity?

As for this Chance, comes down to how much you buy the whole server tick thing when it comes to timers I expect. (Personally I dont.)

Here are the cycle numbers at different skill levels on a covops (lvl 5) with no implants or mid slot mods if you want to check them out (RSS probes, sisters launcher):

0: 7.5s
1: 7.125s
2: 6.75s
3: 6.375s
4: 6s
5: 5.625s

Once you have it to 5 you can add a T2 midslot mod which drops it to 4.5s.
With implants you get it down to a min number of 4.05s.

As for real game terms, the cycle time difference between my main (lvl 4 acquisition, strat, no mods/implants) compared to my scanner alt (covops, max skills, 1 mod, implants) can only be described as "hella big".

PS: for what it's worth, I'd actually expect rangefinding to have a bigger impact on the initial map (if skills matter there at all) since the sphere size is based on the sig size.
