Is there a way to find out if a drone is abandoned?

People mentioned if it's stationary it's likely abandoned, but if it's a sentry that doesn't work.

People mentioned that if you can't scoop it, it is not abandoned, but let's say that there's like 20 drones on the field and I need a drone and I'm flying past them momentarily while orbiting something else.... let's say 1 of those is abandoned and 19 are in use... is there any way to quickly tell the one that's abandoned from the others?

Abandoned drones don't move.

If drones are in use they are always doing something, orbitting a target, flying to a target or orbitting their owner. You could also show info on them (r-click them) and see who owns them. If that pilot isn't on grid with the drones then you can scoop them up.

If you see them doing nothing then they are most likely abandoned and you can sccop them.

ty guys, the answer is no (although sure, if they aren't sentries, then non-moving drones is a good sign).

Sentry drones do move. Just very slowly (about 1 m/s).

Abandoned drones don't have a ship near them. Blink They also give you the option to scoop.

Every drone gives you the option to scoop.
Neat re: sentry movement, thanks!

Also, abandoned drones will be scoop-able on green safety. Others will not.

Just a tip.

I was doing my normal mining thing and I found a set of hobbgloblin 2 and a set of navy hobbgloblin. I scooped and ran with them. P

I used to go drone mining when I was too drunk to FIsh in WoW. Get a frigate or destroyer, fit a MWD or AB, and then jump from belt to belt looking for mining barges with drones deployed. Target the barge, wait for it to lock up, and charge with the WMD or AB running. About 1 in 3 would warp off, forgetting their drones. Scoop. Laugh. Profit.
