She is/was the CCP PR person. Poked her head in once during the Incarna uprising then disappeared due to a family emergency never to be heard from again.

Being the PR person on duty during the biggest PR debacle in the history of MMOs probably didnt help her job security.

Although its probably not fair - I think this was 99% Hilmars fault.

Being head PR for years and never having actually posted much, to a point where she had to explain who she was in her first appearance, probably didn't help much.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Yeah, just this morning I went over the other thread (about a blog by a certain dev that put even more oil on the fire and was akin to a planet killer) with something like 10 responses / minute. Like CCP Manifest noted:

Quote:
To be frank, I am amazed this page loaded.
Lol

Has been quite the year. Quite a lot of world shaping events have occurred both out of game as in game.
Lets hope CCP really learned a lesson this year. Doubt they can survive a second 2011.

Edit: forgot to mention the old thread: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1537164&page=1

Im inclined to agree. As a PR rep, you would think she would be well known by the community. Apparently she wasnt which makes you think exactly what was her job?

Quote:
Senior Director of Public Relations and Communication

Valerie Massey, Senior Director of Public Relations and Communication, CCP - Since she zoomed onto the information highway over a decade ago with a staggering dial-up connection of 2400 baud, Val Massey merged into the MMO fast lane and never looked back. Initially writing pro bono for portal sites like Stratics and Game Spy, her career began in earnest in 2002 as the premier community manager for EVE Online. After a two-year stint at NCsoft, where she initiated the community efforts for Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault, she returned to CCP in 2006 to create their first in-house public relations division. In 2008, that division was expanded to include community relations. Somewhere along the way, she coined the phrase, “Online communities are like the Hotel Californias of the Internet. You can log out, but you can never leave.” A native Texan, Ms. Massey attended San Jacinto College and resides in Austin.

I wonder if she ever made it to that presentation: Everything I Ever Needed to Know About Online Communities I Learned from Jurassic Park.

It was due about the same time as the Incarna blow-up.

Quote:
Speaker/s: Valerie Massey (CCP Games)
Day / Time / Location: Wednesday 3:00- 3:25 Congress Saal 3, 4th Level
Track / Duration / Format: Community Management Summit / 25-Minute / Lecture
GDC Vault Recording: Video Recorded
Description:

It’s a jungle out there! Drawing on a decade of community relations experience and the wisdom gleaned from the “Jurassic Park” trilogy, CCP’s Val Massey presents 10 valuable lessons every customer care professional should commit to memory.

Takeaway: New or aspiring community relations and customer support professionals will gain a deeper understanding of the sometimes not-so-subtle nuances that the job entails, and how challenging but rewarding it can be. For veterans, it’s a refresher course and affirmation that says, “You’re not crazy, it really is like this.”

Sorry, but SWG was a swirling **** storm for PR compared to incarna, SOE actually went through with the changes and look what happened to them.

Learn your history.

Yes but SWG wasnt SOE's only "golden goose" and main source of income. They could afford to be sloppy and lose it. I doubt CCP can afford to lose EVE....yet.

Damage Control???

They are hoping to Nano there way around the issue and didn't fit one so they could add more Banstabilyzers.

When I wrote this I imagined a Vegabond with a Troll Face and the words CCP written along the side.

Pray tell, what logic is missing here?

Logically he thought no EVE Players followed him on Twitter and would catch the post.

Logically when CCP says they won't do something and stabs the Players in the back, logically we should not ask them to stop twisting the Knife let alone pull it out.

Logically you should bend over now.

I was pretty pissed I gotta say.

That about covers it. I am glad I love CCP again. I Re-Subbed and everything. =)

Sure, but I was going through the thread and, while I remember that I got a positive response and a lot of quotes, I don't remember it being every third post on some pages. Lol

Well the NGE for SWG was a complete change to the game and it's mechanics. And this after the mechanics and game had already been changed once before. The rage and hatred during the NGE change was justified and SOE deserved what they got for that one.

Incarna was entirely different. There was nothing that was game changing on a mechanical level. The rage and hatred displayed in EvE over Incarna was hardly justified and mostly a bunch of ignorance over features that could be easily ignored.

Rage about what was said by CCP in "Greed is Good" or whatever, fine. Just about everything else was just blind rage.

Actually Incarna was a game changeing (and for many, game breaking) experience. Not somthing that can be "easily ignored." Which goes to show something as subtle as "ship-spinning" has some meaning even if it doesnt initially appear that way. Change for the better is always good. Change for the sake of change is pointless, and that is what Incarna brought with it.

Some (players) may find this therapeutic, and others (those in charge) a reminder. Forgetting the past...yada yada...condemned to repeat it. Dont need to read the thread if you dont like it.

You know this is not a mandatory History Class. You are free to leave if you still experience Flash Backs from the Great 2011 Forum War.

I am gonna stick around and have a pint with the folks who can look at the Greed is Good Page without weeping. The rest of us are at the point where we can laugh about all the Drama.
