Problem is, if you resort to a backup you basically revert to earlier in your timeline and lose everything you learned. There's probably a limit to how much use notes and camera footage taken by increasingly-sick researchers is going to be, especially since the process isn't all that slow.

There is already a method to research Kyonoke that has been used in the Kyonoke Pit. It's called 'remotely controlled science drones' and 'automated hot labs'.

Also, as already mentioned, capsuleer meat puppets do not work very well because the capsuleer cannot upload their brain state at the moment of death due to corrupted brain state data caused by the damage in the central nervous system inflicted by the prion. Instead, they have to rely on soft clone backups, which do not remember anything from since the backup is completed and thus having to review all their work again before they can progress.

Science drones are highly advanced lab equipment on legs, levitators, hovers or wheels that can act autonomously or be remotely controlled. THAT is the best we can work with at this time, without needing to waste biomass or anyone's time.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.
