I'm new to carriers. They're a lot of fun. Unfortunately, controlling my fighters is a royal PITA. I believe that with a few relatively minor changes to the UI, this could be improved a lot.


1) Allow keyboard shortcuts to be assigned to specific functions per fighter.
I see this being done in one of two ways. Either the Fighter UI itself gets keyboard shortcuts, or the fighters' abiltiies become true module buttons so both modules and FIghters can be in the control panel at the same time.

2) Allow the ability buttons for fighters to expand vertically below the UI as well as above.
This will allow greater versatility to everyone's UI setup and keep it in-line with being able to flip the HUD to top alignment.

3) Attacking when out of range.
If a fighter is out of engagement range, it will do nothing if told to fire missiles, and if told to fire guns, will get closer but then will "forget" to fire guns. I believe both actions should result in the fighter approaching the target and engaging the abilitiy selected.


I view 2&3 as minor QoL improvements, but 1 is such a fundamental I'm amazed it hasn't been done before.

#1 has been requested about a hundred times already in every thread pertaining to Fighters, Carriers, or anything else remotely related. Pretty sure CCP are probably working on this, wouldn't be surprised to see it patch after next considering this upcoming patch has some other much requested drone hotkey improvements.

#2 seems pretty reasonable.

I believe #3 used to be how Fighters worked but it caused some issue or other because CCP changed it so it stopped working. Either that or it was due to people easily wasting missiles, not sure which.

Can we please also have a Fire All button next to each row of individual command buttons. It is quite inconvenient having to press up to 5 buttons individually when I want to recall the fighters or have them attack a single target. No, pressing F1-3 is not a solution and not a workaround because these keys activate all attack modules which is not what I am looking for.

Thanks for the history, wasn't aware of that :). I saw the planned changes for March which looks like a step in the right direction but doesn't (yet) address the individual abilities buttons.
