Alpha clone suggestions

I recommend making the following changes to Alpha Clones:

1) Prevent alpha players from being able to leave HS. (If an mega player becomes an alpha player while outside HS, then they are forced to dock immediately, and when they dock they are offered a free clone jump to their school system, but are not allowed to undock outside of HS, so they can't be used as lookouts.)

2) Prevent alpha players from being able to either aggress a player ship or be aggressed by a player ship. I.e. limit it to HS PVE and mining.

3) Prevent an alpha account from giving stuff, including isk, to an omega account.

4) Keep the limit of only a single alpha account logged in on any given PC at a time.

Once the above are done, and only if they are done, then it will not be possible to use an alpha account to benefit an omega account. If the above are done then let's also make the following change:

5) Enable omega accounts, and a single alpha account, to be logged in at the same time on the same PC.

Reason being, sometimes omega players just want to take a break from whatever they are doing, and do a little plinking of NPCs to break the boredom of whatever they are doing. But they don't want to logout and login in over and over again while checking on the status of the omega account processes. And as long as the alpha account can't help the omega account, then it should be doable and benefit the game. And the above limits should not impact the new players that are using an alpha account to get started with the game.

Also if that alpha account grows in skills, and the omega player finds themselves using it alot, then it will be tempting for the omega player to make it another omega account. And that will help the game revenue grow too.

Why should what is essentially an unlimited trial not be allowed to try out most of the game?

This is a terrible idea and completely defeats the point of using Alphas as any kind of trial.

It's like "hey, look at this big expansive sandbox! You can do anything! Except you all, not you, stay in your boxed off little corner..."

You're suggesting CCP completely eliminate the original use case for Alpha State and substitute a new use case where they serve as a "pet" for Omega characters.

Under no circumstances should CCP allow players to login Alpha and Omega characters at the same time. The current rule that restricts Alphas to a single login allows them to participate in more of the game without a risk that Omega players will find a way to exploit the free accounts.

As far as I can see, the current rules are working well and need no change.

1. No. Don't be a dumb ass.
2. No. Don't be a dumb ass.
3. No. Don't be a dumb ass.
4. As if alpha accounts being able to interact with omegas was going to ruin the game.

1. Stupid. I joined Horde almost immediately upon starting the game, and left within the week for nullsec. I doubt I'd still be playing if all I could do on my trial was sit in hisec.
2. Stupid. Blocking alphas from PvP in a PvP game defeats the purpose of trying the game.
3. Stupid. What if some Omega character has done a valuable service for me? Why is player interaction bad? Besides, unless you effectively ban alphas from the market I'll just transfer ISK and items via buy orders and super expensive sell orders for really rare and useless items.
4. This one's OK.
5. So it will become mandatory for people to use an alpha in HS. Are there wardeccers behind that gate? Send in the alpha! Looking for war targets on my neutral alt? Send in the alpha! Want to mine extra ore? Alpha in a Venture! Make some extra ISK? Alpha running missions!

You seem to want to put alphas in their own tiny box that isn't actually EvE. "A full-time massive PvP sandbox? Well not for you little alpha. Get in this Venture and mine rocks all day!"

I'm going to build a big wall that will keep the Gallente out, and they're going to pay for it!

1: Why?
2: Why?
3: Why?
4: How is keeping things the same a change?
5: I'd abuse the shite out of that for both PvE purposes and PvP avoidance, and so would many others.

TL;DR The OP doesn't want new players to play Eve, he wants them to be restricted to the most boring parts of Eve.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

You're taking alpha clones from an extrended free trial of the game, to being your PI and mining alt?

It's absolutely amazing sometimes, reading what people post when you make suggestions. I wasn't going to respond, but here it is anyway.

The biggest things that I read are "your making alphas your PI and mining alt". May I suggest that you first learn about something before posting. Alphas already can't do PI. And they can only mine with the absolute worst equipment and ships making pretty useless as a mining alt. So they already can't be a PI or mining alt.

For those that accuse me of wanting a mining alt: I have an alpha account, and when I mine, I don't do so in HS, and I don't do it with my alpha account. I do it with multiple omega accounts and a command ship. I assure you that my suggestion has nothing to do with wanting a PI or mining alt, nor do I feel that it would do so for anyone that has access to an omega account. If anything, the HS limitation would guarantee that most likely nobody would want to do so.

As for PVP, alphas are already pretty bad at PVP. T1 ships with poor skills and poor equipment, are no match for T3 ships with super equipment and skills. Especially if you are a true "new player using a free trial to evaluate the game". So taking alphas out of PVP should not be a problem. It is only protecting the "trial players". And of course stopping alpha accounts from being used by omega players as free suicide gankers etc.

And just about every omega player that I know of already has an alpha account. Each for their own reason, but they have one. This isn't making alphas something that they aren't already. It is just making them do it better.

And you people call me a dumb ass?

You are telling on yourselves, and your own desired use of your alpha accounts as helpers to your PVP game play.

Enjoy.

You still haven't answered the question of why.

Alpha clone state was put in place by CCP primarily to allow new players an unlimited time in which to try and find their niche in Eve, the time limited trail being too short for them to do so. They want to increase player retention, not kill their game.

Your suggestion goes against that by artificially restricting further the activities that an Alpha can take part in.

1: Preventing Alphas from leaving hisec is a terrible idea, the newbie programs that the nullsec corps provide have long been known to be good at retaining new players; curtailing the ability of Alphas, new or otherwise from joining such programs may well lead to a reduced rate of retention.

2: Preventing Alphas from aggressing or being aggressed is anti sandbox to the max, if you're in space you're a target, and have been for nigh on 14 years.

3: Preventing an alpha account from giving stuff, including isk, to an omega account achieves what exactly?.

4: Keeping the status quo in relation to the number of Alphas that you can log in is the only sensible part of your suggestion

5: Being able to log in an Alpha and an Omega at the same time is very abusable, even as a non PvPer I can see ways to abuse the hell out of it.

While true that many Omegas also have Alpha clones, the skill and login restrictions in place prevent a lot of abuse, and most of us are good with that.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

It doesn't sound like even you don't know what to do with this clone. Alphas should be able to pvp, the previous post called your changes anti-sandbox and he's absolutely right

So basically, because alphas are likely to lose in PvP combat in a 1v1 situation, just ban them from ALL PvP in a PvP game? Leaving alphas to PvE alone is going to drive off the people who would enjoy an always-on PvP game.

Omega account lose 50% of the PVP they engage in. That's a kinda high % IMO so we should also remove Omegas from PvP to be sure people aren't potentially subjected to losing that often.

This right here is proof that you have no idea what you're talking about.

No, one alpha in a frigate is not going to beat an omega in a t3. But one omega in a frigate is not going to do that either. Five alphas in frigates, however, could very well ruin the day of that t3c.

I know that GSF and Pandemic Horde both have fleet options for alphas. I assume brave and test do as well, and I would be very surprised if every other pvp oriented group with more than a hundred members doesn't too. Why is that bad? How is allowing people trying out the game for the first time, or seeing what has changed after bob knows how long, to participate in what is literally the entire point of this game a bad thing?

The pve in this game is awful. It always has been. How do you think people are going to be encouraged to subscribe if they cannot even sample the absolute basics of the good parts of the game?

If you are really afraid that 200Alpha Accounts (of course all ALTs of Omegas) will start a massive Catalyst Gank Offensive in Highsec,...don´t forget that CCP is watching how many alphas are participating in such activities.

They already said they will potentially "disable" the ability for alphas to change their security down to red/yellow in Highsec if the Data shows "9999 Alphas login in 3 times a week for 1hour and only do ganking and nothing else"...

Creating Alphas is one of the best ideas CCP had.

New Players extend the trial, slowly build up the skills, get to know everything that is possible in EVE, get the taste of "uhhh if i only could be an omega" and the most IMPORTANT PART YOU MISS...

they build their own identity, their own reputation, their own footprints in the sandbox...
You could not do that with 3 weeks Trial.

And your argument "Alphas are in any way not PVP Capable and lose every fight...",...ZarvoX / BjornBee Solo PVP Style yeah sure, most of the times you would lose, but not only because of the Skillpoint/Fitting Difference, it is more about Experience with PVP Situations.

But EVE was never intended to be a complete SOLO Game.

I can´t count how many times that "one griffin", that one "logi Frig", or that one "t1 Slasher" went on top of the enemy Kiting Gang with Orthrus, Omen Navy, Osprey Navies...and saved me, or saved others, or granted us that 4s more "holding Tackle" to bring in the DPS and secondary heavy Tackle...

A ******* Alpha saved my Macharial once, sacrifiying his T1 ECM Burst Frigate to give me the 2s "FREE OF POINTS/SCRAMS SUPER SEXY HAPPY TIME" to press that Warp button...and get out.

So nope,...ALPHAs are awesome, and ALPHA is the best way to test out EVE ONLINE and start to feel "special" and give those Pilots the Choice to upgrade to an Omega, to become even more Legendary™.
