Exploration Career in Lowsec

Hi, I'm an Alpha clone. Just now, I tried exploring lowsec space in hopes of finding something valuable by exploring. I managed to run away from one player who tried to scan me down (haha, I feel proud because it's my first time xD) and I managed to find a safe lowsec space to explore and scan. However, I encountered a problem: the maximum percentage from the scan from the signature was 91.8%. I tried moving around the probes over and over again, but the highest was 91.8%, the other being 90+ or 80+%. It was the only signature in that space, so I didn't try another constellation (or what's the proper name?)

My current ship is Imicus Tech I, my modules are:
-Rig Slot: 2x Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
-High Slot: Core Probe Launcher I (I use Core Scanner Probe I)
-Mid Slot: Relic Analyzer I, Data Analyzer I, Scan Rangefinding Array I, 1MN Afterburner I
-Low Slot: 2x Warp Core Stabilizer I

I don't know what the problem is, but I suspect it's because of my modules or ship type. Any help or information would be useful. I also know that I should have bought a Salvager, but I forgot.... I found a lot of wrecks on the way there.

Some sigs are harder than others to scan down. Probably need higher level scanning skills

Your fit looks pretty reasonable. Other than using Sisters of Eve Core Scanner Probes and training your skills (which I appreciate are capped as an alpha clone) there is not too much more you can do.

That said, you can speed things up by fitting more scanning mods (alpha clones can fit two, I believe) and then using a station or mobile depot to switch to your analyzers after you have scanned down the signatures. But as the mod you are not using only affects scanning speed, it won't help you scan down something you otherwise couldn't.

Some signatures are harder to scan than others, though, and what you've got ought to let you scan down most things. I have an alpha clone scanning alt for w-space emergencies, and I've not encountered much she can't pin down eventually.

Oh, and you could also look into skill hardwiring implants, assuming those are available to alpha clones.

If you like reading about low sec piracy or wormhole pvp, you might enjoy my blog.

If my modules are already fairly adequate, then I guess that I scanned it wrongly (since you mentioned that your Alpha clone account can scan most things)? There was already a green dot in the middle and all my probes' range are overlapping. I don't have a picture of it, though.

EDIT: Thanks for the tips to tracking down cosmic signatures more quickly, though :-)

If you have a sig at -let's say- 85% and your probes are allready at 0,25 AU you can still get them closser. Just hit shift (or was it ALT, try both...) and use the mouse wheel. Your probes now move closer to the "green dot". But not to much, or all probes will be in the same place at your next scan. Those hard scans are often Ghost sides or Sleeper caches. Dangerous but good paying exploration sides.

Hello and welcome to Eve.

Gratz on surviving your first exploration trip into Low sec space. I suggest you do some Google research first on setting up specific Overview tabs, making / using Safe Spots in system and using D-scan to spot other ships and probes. Practice doing those in High sec space before you go back to Low sec.

As for scanning with an Alpha Clone, make sure you have trained up all Scanning skills to max level allowed for Alpha's. Also make sure you have the Core Fitting skills trained up as well.

Now about equipment, definitely upgrade the probe launcher to a Sister core probe launcher and use Sister core probes I. Those provide a bonus to scan strength.

Anyway, that's about it. Hope you have good luck and much success.

I know your pain, I thought I was a pretty decent scanner(alpha max skills). I have a venture I scan with to pass the time while mining to pass the time.

[Venture, Adventure Capital]Lol
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Core Probe Launcher I {Core Scanner Probe I x8}

And the other day I had 2 data sites spawn in my and I couldn't get them over 75% and thought this must be some BIG MONEY sites if they are so hard to enter. So I went and pulled out my scanning bonus ship.

[Imicus, Pervert]Cool
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Combat Scanner Probe I x8 {Core Scanner Probe I x8 or Combat Scanner Probes I}

And still couldn't get over 90%. I can usually get most sites scanned down by 2AU the harder ones come in at 1AU. But I never had one hard like the those.

I've been wanting to get a launcher and probes forever but never got around to it and the prices was a lil prohibitive for the few time I would need them.

But as always, better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them.

No cuts, no butts, no coconuts!

I did narrow it down to 0.25 AU scanning range. I also tried moving all the probes using said keyboard commands to narrow down the scan range of each probe so that the green dot is right at the center. Still, the best was 91.8% :-(

Yep, I did some reading and watched some Youtube videos about how to survive in lowsec. I did use the D-scan and make a safe spot.

Yeah, I guess I'll need Sisters Probe, but the prices currently in my region are very expensive (about 38m ISK) and I can't afford them. Yeah, I've got all my scanning skills available maxed.

Thank you for the information :-) Guess it's time to save up for those Sisters Probes.

If you get it close, yet are unable to scan further, here is a little trick.

Hold down ALT and grab one of the arrows. You should be able to move the bubbles in their current size closer or farther away. Bring them in close, yet not so close that they overlap completely. You can squeeze a little more out that way.

Good luck.
