Do many people use guns on their Herons or just go with salvage and cloaking?

Just salvage, cloaking, and a core probe launcher. Fitting one unbonused gun to your Heron really isn't going to do much damage to someone trying to kill you. Your best defense is not getting caught, although ECM drones are a close second.

I'm going to build a big wall that will keep the Gallente out, and they're going to pay for it!

I was thinking more about combat sites, I currently have (2) 75mm guns and they did decent until I am getting hit by 4 ships after jumping the gate. I have been thinking about ignoring those and going for the relic and data sites until I can mine for gas.

Hello,

A Heron is great for scanning and running hacking sites. However for low level exploration combat sites you should use a ship intended to handle that role such as a Kestrel or Merlin.

If you want to fit up an 'All in one' ship able to do various types of exploration sites, you should look into using larger hull class ships.

By the way, there's different levels of exploration combat sites so be careful of which ones you warp your Frigate into. Do a Google search on the site name and see what hull class is recommended to run the site. After a while you'll know which sites to run and which sites to bypass.

I would not do combat sites in a Heron. Exploration frigates are designed to find data and relic sites, not fight stuff, and as a consequence they have poor damage output and defense.

Definitely put guns on your exploration heron along with some tank. You will be able to surprise players that think you're a defenseless alpha.

The one and only use I can imagine for guns on a Heron would be to chase another T1 exploration frigate out of an exploration site in low or null.

1/10 is doable, I have done it in a Helios with 1 drone, no guns and no tank other than a DCU.

Much else and you would ahve to compromise the ships scanning and even then it would be sub par.
