Eve should require you to learn at least 4 new made up languages in order to understand what is going on.

sarcasic comment one: Its a game dummy and english is the most popular launguage
sarcastic comment two: you are a pod pilot everything you see or hear is automaticly tuned to your brains best understood format, much like the fabled babel fish.

a capsuleer without *any* implants? You do realise we all have a "base" number of implants for comtrolling the ship with, right (namely that big jack at the base of your skull)?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I've always found the 'logo-with-regular-text-on-it' style to be pretty cool and fitting for eve - even something like the elusive Sansha corps have "true power" etc in plain writing on their corp logos.. and it's great.

I don't see how what's written on the sides of ships that I'm trying to blow up in way makes my ruining of your day less enjoyable or in any way less immersive.......

If you read the backstory you will notice that all the factions have a common origin. Humans that were trapped by the ancient WH.

They should really all speak the same language, but I'll agree that there should be some regional differences.

Yes, it's not like a few thousand years would change said language, right? Roll

Immersion taken too far can ruin the fun of a game. At some point you have to draw the line, step back and say but that's not even fun! Including made up languages is more chore than fun to the vast majority of players.

This thread reminds me of the nuts who bothered to make elvish and klingon functional languages.

Why does the Kronos say "Duviolle Laboratories" on it in plain English text...

Isn't this game supposed to be set in a distant galaxy at the end of a collapsed wormhole thousands of years in the future?

Or is there some chronicle explaining why not just the Gallente, but all the empires use the same plain English text to label their corp logos?

Wouldn't it make more sense if each empire had it's own script to label it's ships with? It would certainly add immersion and depth to the game.

You can always switch to the russian or japanese localized client... It'll seem just like a language from thousands of years ahead.

Actually, Tolkien made elvish himself, along with the other languages in his books. He was a very sad lonely young lad so made up languages for fun. Then he matured and his scary little mind spun up The Lord of the Rings and input his languages into it. He spoke his own languages so all the fans did was bring it back to life.

Now for klingon, similar idea, but WAY more effort by the fans.

Is this a bad time to point out I once translated the Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear into Elvish just for the hell of it?

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.
