Hello all space nerds \o

Now i'm gonna talk about an impressive and amazing game, or to be more precise, a universe simulator that is called 'Space Engine' that i'm sure many of you here probably haven't heard about. It has been out for some years now, but it's on the latest version 0.9.8.0 that the simulator have been heavily improved. So now the game / simulator is more fun to play. Version 0.9.8.1 is coming soon to.

This game / simulator has to be one of the most impressive and amazing thing i have tried out when it comes to exploring the universe. And the best part is that all of this is completely FREE.

As we already are playing a game (EVE Online) that is all about space, then i'm sure many of you here will find 'Space Engine' to be really intresting as it's about space to.

Here is a description of 'Space Engine'.

- SpaceEngine is a realistic virtual Universe you can explore on your computer. You can travel from star to star, from galaxy to galaxy, landing on any planet, moon, or asteroid with the ability to explore its alien landscape. You can alter the speed of time and observe any celestial phenomena you please. All transitions are completely seamless, and this virtual universe has a size of billions of light-years across and contains trillions upon trillions of planetary systems. The procedural generation is based on real scientific knowledge, so SpaceEngine depicts the universe the way it is thought to be by modern science. Real celestial objects are also present if you want to visit them, including the planets and moons of our Solar system, thousands of nearby stars with newly discovered exoplanets, and thousands of galaxies that are currently known.

I'm first gonna link to some videos from the game / simulator that shows how amazing and wonderfull it all looks.

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXst2oHt78A

2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOgdiTSX0AE

3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M3zdMXkkdw

4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLlz1s8EFiw

5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ4OFd6FkcY

6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59Jet3bn8vY

7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mootV7Iqa34

And here you have some few videos where it get's explained a little about 'Space Engine' in it self and the travel beween planets, nebulaes and so on.

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovfhv_9-KIg

2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zz_keUT-L7A

3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enM_vSHGE-g (A Tour of the Milky Way).

And here you can see another intresting video expaining some cool things where you also can see how the HUD / UI is and how it is to fly around to different places with the HUD / UI on.

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y4fmEO-hpg

Yes, the graphic and the details of the planets and the other things in 'Space Engine' is really really great. But then, you can download about 45 GB with HD and Ultra textures for 'Space Engine' (that you can find on the web page to 'Space Engine'). That makes ALOT of things looks way better.

Now, you might think that this might have taken ages to develop / create. The answer here is most likely yes. One of the reasons for that is that there is only 1 guy who have been developing this game / simulator. That's impressive and almost makes my head explode for having problems to believe on how one guy have managed to develop such a massive and impressive thing.

Now the graphics and details is not the only thing that is really great about 'Space Engine'. You have the great ambient musics that comes with 'Space Engine' to where 'AstroPilot' which is known for making good ambient musics is there aswell.

Because of how amazing and impressive this game / simulator is, i would absolutely donate him some money for his work on his website. I mean, seriously Big smile.

Earlier, i took 2 cool pictures from the view from the Moon in 'Space Engine'. Here is the pictures.

1. https://www.dropbox.com/s/lwu37gbt37sbax5/SpaceEngineFromMoon.png?dl=0

2. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nlle8lu3qlzlkha/Moon%2BAndromeda.png?dl=0

Now i want to hear you thoughts about this game / simulator on what you think about it. And if you are playing it already, then you can also share some amazing pictures or even videos from it here if you want so we all can see the different amazing places around the universe.

Have a good day and have fun with 'Space Engine'. You will absolutely love it if you like space to begin with.

No idea as you don't play as a character there. You either 'free move' around in space or you can fly like a plane or add different spacecrafts that you can fly around with. So the only thing you can find or see, is planets, nebulaes, comets, asteroids, galaxies and so on.

I see that you like it very much.

I have downloaded it and its just a space simulator, but it isnt a game. You dont have any technologies to make you involved in this world somehow. There are no npcs, no other players. No lore background. No infrastructure, no objectives. No tasks, no missions. No developing technologies. No fighting mechanics, no tactical and strategic aspects to anything. All there is, is space procedurally generated, like intelligent life would not be there yet. Maybe that is what future astronauts would feel when they will go into space far and far away from home. But they would at least have some procedures to do, before they go to sleep like everyday. They would have some games to play on their spaceship. They would have other astronauts around them. There was a mod that added some EVE ships there, so you could fly around in them. But thats all.

I looked at the vids and woke up an hour with drool on my desk
Not my kind if simu but thanks for showing it to us.

Try Empyrion Galactic Survival. Its pretty neat you can build your own ship and fly it to space or other planets

Yeah, that's correct. But that's the whole point of this simulator. You can however find different things with activity and so on on different planets around in the universe though.

You can also import spacecrafts that you can make with some 3D modelling programs to, so you have the abilities to create some EVE Online ships to use in 'Space Engine'. However, you can only fly the ships around.

EDIT: Here is a good presentation of how you can explore different planets and so on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0I4J8HDXLY

Ok, i just found a very nice picture taken from Space Engine yesterday: http://i.imgur.com/IBYKOjt.png

And i also found an EVE Online Mod for Space Engine here. And because of that, i made a nice picture with the Hel close to earth earlier: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7309753/Bilder/Spill/Space%20Engine/HelInSpaceEngine.png

Space Engine never stops to amaze me with it's really great details and environments Cool.

Here is another picture i took from Space Engine after placing out 5x Hel's on top of the Moon while seeing the Earth.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mg0wy7cr9zx6n06/5xHelsOnMoonSpaceEngine.png?dl=0

I also tried to place out 70 Hel's to, but i placed them to close to each others, so i had to remove them. Later i'm gonna try to put out 100-200 Hel's or a mix of Hel's and Nyx'es somewhere in the Milky Way or the Andromeda galaxy to see how that will be Cool.

I tried out Space Engine a while back. It was interesting for a while, but I think one would need a very abstract or physics-oriented mind to enjoy it for long. OP, if you have the kind of mind, congratulations!

Well, pretty much everything that have with space to do is something i'm really intresting in. There is so much out there in space that i'm never gonna be tired of wondering about what's out there Big smile.

Here is a new feature that will come soon that will make it much easier to make some stunning videos from Space Engine. It's called Path Recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26lB3hkgh-E

+1 for that feature, also EVE having something like that would allow people to make some cinematics. I have seen some already from EVE, but its visible that people were struggling to keep visuals to the quality level they wanted.

I'm just trying to make a video from Space Engine now. It will be 5 minutes and 20 seconds long. So expect to see it soon Big smile.

For now, it will just be for showing the planets and galaxies / nebulaes. But i do have a short preview video from Space Engine on upload to YouTube right now though (80% uploaded right now) just so you can see on how the final video might be. The video will only be available to those who have the link.

Remember that i'm totally new to Space Engine and i still have a long way to figure out how to handle the camera movements and so on much better, so what you see in my preview video is from the POV of a noob there Big smile.

I've messed around with Space Engine too! Definitely still in development, but I don't there's any other place where you can get a detailed simulation like this for free. Nice to see a fellow geek. Big smile
