Apparently there's a "glitch" where stargates can malfunction and become inactive (not due to high node population in the destination system). If you should happen upon one alomg with numerous ships adrift...

a) It is considered bad form to warp scramble and web them.
b) It is definitely bad form to bat-dial your team mates to get in on the action.
c) It is absolutely, positively bad form to drop a cyno.
d) It is probably nothing short of evil to exploit this to your advantage by looting, pilaging and killing - but should you choose to accept your mission, an unannounced 7-day vacation may be in your future.

Remember that good samaritans are indistinguishable from those running amok, and the old adage of the crow applies: "Fly with the crow - get shot with the crow."

nice skirt, and the PSA is warranted.

Was reading this on reddit the other day. It would be helpful if CCP added this to the list of exploits and give an official notification that killing ships suffering from a malfunctioning gate gets you a ban. Ugh

So you want to ban a players account because he killed a ship?

Just when I thought this community couldn't get any worse.

While the whiny rage quit over a 7 day timeout we saw earlier was completely unwarranted, this is still a bit of a problem. Are we supposed to check if the gate actually works first every time we engage in combat now?

No.

Kill first. Check after.

Maybe I should add reimbursements to the list of things that should be removed from the game.

Remove standings and insurance.

No.

Kill first. Banned after.

FTFY

There isn't even a way to check a gate works without jumping it, and there's plenty of valid gameplay reasons why you might not want to jump a gate.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

So far there's no explanation of why this would lead to a ban.

Edit: Ah Tipa's post below explains it. Ah well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, I'd be banned. I wouldn't care if the gate worked or not. It's still kill first. Check after.

Train your reading comprehension to level 2 at least. I do not want anything, but CCP actually bans people doing that without proper exploit notification, source: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/5rvqm8/getting_a_7_day_ban_because_i_tried_to_help_my/

Exactly!
How they arrive at the conclusion that this is an exploit is beyond me. It is more like exposing a flaw. CCP needs to give us a "Your s*#% is broke" hotkey. BIAB having epileptic seizures during game play is not helpful.

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

And apparently this really is something they want to keep hidden. Secret surprise bans for everybody!

You can typically jump later. But in a PvP situation, you often have to make decisions quickly. Warp off if you are not pointed. If you are, jump the gate. If you can't, die in a fire.

But apparently now the attacker is supposed to ... let you pass if the gate is not functioning for whatever reason?

My question is - if I haven't tried the gate, how do I know if it's working before I shoot you? I mean...this really could put a damper on PvP - especially in nullsec, since most of the PVP there tends to happen on gates.

I mean, I get it, CCP doesn't want people dying when they have no opportunity to do anything at all (even if that anything is just escaping through a gate) but as the attacker, it's not my job to make sure the guy I'm shooting is present and accounted for before I zap him. For all I know he could be AFK.

This is an extremely troubling stance for CCP to take.

Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you. Also, iderno
