People keep telling me that it's not possible to rat as an alpha properly.

I say pfft, there must be a way.

I'm in a vexor (not VNI) and I have drones V.

My local rats are bloods.

I've been using a fit with zero guns as I never seem to land a hit with them. Therefore my DPS is around 170.

Please help me with a fit and/or tactics on how to take on combat sites (I'm sick of boring asteroid belt NPC's).

It depends on what is meant by 'ratting'.

You have belt ratting, missions, combat site ratting, DED sites and I guess mining fleets now.

You then also have high, low and null sec.

You are going to have serious problems with null sec ratting, be it belts or combat sites as an alpha. You just don't have access to the right ships (T2 cruisers, BCs or BB) or the right weapons (Sentries, T2 anything) or tank related stuff (again T2 ships and modules).

Then there's the question about efficiency. Say you can technically do a Lv4 mission but it takes you 1h to do it for 20 mill. In that same time you could do many more lv3 missions for 30 or 40 mill. (numbers are examples only)

DED sites have different challenges in different areas of space. In HS you regularly need to compete against other players for sites and an alpha is at a pretty big disadvantage. In LS/Null you have other players actively trying to kill you to contend with.

That said, most common 'proper' ratting is null sec high end combat sites and yea I don't see alphas being able to do that. For high sec combat site ratting your best bet is a Gnosis fitted with your racial weapon system + drones. Will also do OK in lv3 missions.
