Hey there!

I would like to know wether someone can breakdown the META in this game for me. Like what faction is op (if so), what ships or shi classes are op and what professions are most op or useful in New Eden.
And I would like to know addionally where the META comes from. What I mean by this is: How do you evaluate what META is right now? How do you know it and makes you know when META changes and e.g a different ship becomes op.

I appreciate your answers and Im already excited about your answers.

Regards

"Meta" refers to "Metagame" which simply means you are trying to outthink your opponent and/or fit to counter any fits said opponent brings to the table (and/or counter any counter fits the opponent brings against you).

Basically... you are "metagaming" when you are trying to devise an in-game strategy using intel that may or may not come solely from the game itself.

The term is also used to refer to a "general strategy" of sorts.

The problem when seeking the "Best Meta" is that it is pretty much impossible to have one.
By its nature, metagaming is organic and changes on the fly.

You bring a ship or group of ships... the enemy gets intel on it... and they bring something to counter the potential fit(s) you may have.
UNLESS you took that into account and fit your ships a certain way to counter that counter.
Or you bring in another group to counter the counter to your ships.
(this is all "metagaming")

In general... all ships in EVE have some kind of strength and some kind of drawback.
Drone ships may be powerful in small gangs... but they have issues when dealing with highly mobile ranged ships.
Highly mobile ranged ships may be powerful in taking out small gang... but they have issues when dealing with very tanky setups that center around Remote Repairs.
Very tanky setups that center around Remote Repairs may be powerful "wrecking balls"... but they have issues dealing with Electronic Warfare.
And Electronic Warfare ships have issues dealing with drone ships... because drones only need their host ship to make the initial target lock and "attack" order. After that, a drone ship can be jammed and neutered and not really care.

It is a literal "rat race."

EvE is all about 'rocks, paper, scissors' as shah already explained.

There is solo meta, small gang meta and fleet meta.
LowSec/FW-meta, NullSec-meta and WH-meta.
Cloaky-meta, cyno/blop/hotdrop-meta, baiting-meta, gatecamp-meta and hit-and-run meta.
And endless combinations of those...

The XXX is a typically a bait ship so I can fly it solo, call it "obvious bait" and people will leave me alone? Or is this the best bait ship ever because everyone is like: "Totally not buying this!"

But I can tell you that the Gurista pirat ships are called "cheat-pirats" by some players and I am very happy with the results I get with gilas myself.

If you typed the whole meta in eve out with every ship accounted for you would probably end up writing a short novel.

In general for solo or small scale (very small, i,e no real fleets) pvp:

Op or very good ships (excluding logis and must have recons or hics or dictors that fullfill unique roles, the sabre is **** for example as a proper pvp ship, buts it good at being a dictor)

Amar: Tormentor, slicer, confessor, heretic, pontifex, omen navy issue, curse, navy harb, geddon

Gallente: Tristan, comet, algos, magus, hecate, vexor, vexor navy issue, deimos, brutix navy issue, eos, domi

Caldari: Kestrel, hookbill, flycatcher, caracal, osprey navy, cerb,

Minmatar: breacher, thrasher, svipul, vagabond, navy cane, sleipnir, phoon, navy phoon, pest

Pirate:

Garmur, scubbus, orthrus, phantasm, machariel, barghest, nightmare, vindicator, rattlesnake

Pretty sure the ultimate meta is...

Have more Friendships and more spies.

That and don't sleep, play 24/7.

TLDR

MORE!

Arent friends and spies the same thing?

And I found the Rifter pretty OP in PVE for its class, and the Breacher right there with it.

Hehe... sometimes. Blink

Realistically, yes and no.

Having more friends certainly helps and gives you a big advantage over others who are strictly solo.
However, you can make an alternate character or account to spy on others.

In the latter scenario you have more direct control over what is said, done, and where the info is going.
In the former scenario both you and your friend (assuming he/she is competent) can react to and perform larger and more complex tactics and intel strategies. Both your friend and you also have greater "plausible deniability" if something goes wrong or people become suspicious.

Might as well ask what the best ship in EVE is. Start a another multi page thread going.

As mentioned above, let us know your target activity and i'm sure people can point you in the right direction.
