New player, just curious.
How does the launcher download patches? Does it download them when they go live? Or does it download them in advance only to have them switched on later by the server updates?

Does it download from a server or use P2P sharing across users?

For code patches, it's as they're released.

For graphics, if you have SiSi/Singularity selected as a server to keep up with (as well as Tranquility, which is the main one) you'll get the updates as they hit the test server. so on patch day you won't have a lot to pick up.

It's from a server.

You don't have to worry about Eve using a P2P model to download updates like other "F2P" games.

I speak as someone whose wife played LOTRO (Pando P2P crap years ago) and it really killed our net connection as it was only 1Mbps up.

At some point CCP did discuss the idea of using P2P to distribute updates but the playerbase shot that one down in flames Twisted
