To us pilots, Thal was and still is the DUSTer. There were thousands of those soldiers fighting on the ground, but only one you really needed to know. He has always worn his loyalties and his faith on his sleeve, and has never done disservice to either.

Given the collapse of DUSTer infrastucture and the decline of that entire initiative, the fact that Thal Vadam never lost heart, prevailed among the rubble, and still works among us today, is quite gratifying.

I like Elmund Egivand's take on techno-shamanism. It reminds me a lot of the sort of things my mother's clan taught me, although our clans are very different.

There's a certain stoic purity in remaining where you are for so long, when others flee to where others have gone before. Away. This is rare enough to be remarkable and interesting, since the motivation remains unknown to me.
