Are they no longer the communication medium of choice for new stuff or was last year so starved of new content it managed to become the year with the least amount of dev-blogs since the beginning of the game?

Number of blogs alone doesn't mean much, they might be condensing more info into fewer posts.

Actually it is because under Seagull they have become a lot more professional and don't do dev blogs on things they have no ability to deliver and that they are condensing more into fewer posts as correctly pointed out by the poster above.

When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

There was a recent reddit thread on this and while I rarely agree with Ripard (and most commonly disagree with him), his post here seems pretty good:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/5jqovs/devblogs_in_2014_and_2016/

Falcon also makes a good contribution, pointing out the greater use of forum threads by the devs, as opposed to devblogs.

Have you also counted Dev posts were lesser features were announced and open to community feedback? For example, the change to defender missiles. There was no Dev blog but a thread with the announcement but no Dev blog.

The mods are so harsh even the devs have moved to reddit.

Yeah it does seam they move away from the dev-blog as a medium. I am just not sure what that means for the visibility of those changes and topics

Well putting out a dev blog with pie in the sky wishful thnking as compared to what they do now is fact, if that gets an oho and a like then what can I say.

I criticise CCP on a number of things, but I think in terms of the way they do development now and their control of the down time and servers they are truly excellent, and what they have done to capital combat is also exceptionally good, there is a layer of tactical sophistication now there which is very very good.

So oho..., but I am not quite sure what you meant by that, but just in case.

It's not so much less use of the medium Dev Blog, but less use of the medium EVE Forums. I'm fine with more condensed blogs that perhaps cover more topics or are better planned. I'm NOT fine with Devs retreating to Reddit for their interaction with us players.

Quite a bit of the delivery of the "meat" of dev blogs has switched to simple forum posts that outline the stats for changes that are coming.

Coupled with this, the high level direction stuff is generally covered by either EVE Updates, the semi-regular video blogs from CCP Seagull, or a combination of both.

Generally, we're trying to move away from long, monolithic walls of text that Dev Blogs tend to be, and are trying to cover most of the upcoming stuff in simpler terms, with easier to digest content.

So yeah, less dev blogs in future, and more direct communication, plus video content :

You heard him boys, lets give this thread the GD treatment! okay okay, just kidding, don't spank me Max Big smile

As for the topic, I prefer the dev blogs, nice central, easy to get to place for information. In the past I would check the dev blog page before anything else, and would then follow the comments link to the discussion.

NOW if I want to stay current I have to watch twitter and reddit like a hawk, or browse multiple forum sections here. For example i didn't learn about the plan changes for Defender Missiles until I heard an alliance mate talking about it on Mumble, 2 days after the Defender Missile forum post went up because I don't usually visit F&I.

It is what it is I guess, but I still think the dev blogs were better.

There's also https://updates.eveonline.com/

What's that official site with the teaser images. It's where they released snippets of Drifters before they were announced

I don't think the Dev blogs where better. Rather it was one single source for all information, reducing the time required to locate the information. I think if there was one central source with links to the relevant blog or forum topic it would be nice.

The launcher is somewhat used for the purpose. I would just like to see a separate tab which has 3 columns you should scroll through. The columns would be Dev Blogs, Forum Feature Posts, and Video feature links.

Each column would contain links to the appropriate info. This way we would have once source to show us where to find the latest posts, blogs, and Videos.
